  1. That is not fair, on two separate accounts. Firstly, that's some damn nice planting. Secondly, are those a festivum Gourami?
  2. How old is the tank? A new BN may die from starvation (new tank syndrome)
  3. Start of a mini cycle? maybe not so mini?
  4. So... I have a filter cover and two of my BN still ended up in the CF1200... They were HUGE :slfg: Got them out and added them to the tank
  5. They can stop occupying a town and get some fish to occupy a tank instead :rotf: That's something that would get much better attention
  6. If you use the syphon at the same (or near the same) height as the water level (lowered to near that of the eggs/young), it should slow the flow rate, hopefully reducing the damage done to the young. You can adjust the height of the syphon bucket to increase/decrease the flow as required. It would be better to not use a self starting syphon, you would want to use just a tube (less mechanical interference.) Just my 2c worth...
  7. AqAdvisor This site will show you that even one bristlenose will outgrow that tank, but they are great tank cleaners. If you have a bigger tank that you can throw them into once they're bigger, you should be able to use them for about 6 months or so.
  8. Just because you made the colour yourself, doesn't mean they can't match it. The tech's getting pretty damn awesome when it comes to matching colours
  9. They have a long term memory, but a short term memory of only 3 seconds
  10. Wow, with who? I've got an insurance broker getting me mine cheaper than the quotes from the insurance agencies, and it's still $350 a year
  11. Firstly, 3rd party is MUCH cheaper than full. Secondly, My wife gets it WAY cheaper than I do, her excess in an event is $250, mine's $750. Both under 25, but I'm a male on my restricted (She's a woman on her full). Thirdly, I would hate to be your insurance company if you're making that many claims. Doesn't your premiums go up after a claim?
  12. I have tint on one of the sides of my tank. It helps reduce sunlight, which helps reduce algae. It can make the water appear dirty (if viewed from the side, the water is clear).
  13. I'm not going to try marine until I have at least 6 years experience with freshwater tropicals. From what I have seen, Marine is easier to maintain once it is set up, but it is an absolute mission to get set up (and very costly). Lots of experience will be your biggest tool. Have patience.
  14. Mine also love their floating ferns. There is a fair bit of current in the tank though. There is a fair chunk of wood in the tank for the bristlenose. It is a large-ish tank, with plenty of hiding spots, but they prefer the mid-level or the surface
  15. Good Morning Everyone! I have four golden honey dwarf gourami. One has a large black colouring on his bottom (Ventral?) fin. None of them have started a bubble nest yet. Has anyone had any luck with breeding golden honeys? I read somewhere that they require a maximum of 8 inches (water depth) before spawning... This sounded odd, and I havn't found the reference again since. I'm not as desperate for these to breed as I was with my Bristlenose, but I would like to know if it's a possibility for these awesome playful fish. Thanks!
  16. Very hard to get in NZ, but hopefully BigBoss will have some luck once the bamboo dries out.... now where's that fingers-crossed image gone....
  17. It's great at stopping nails being fired from a nail gun, not so much for equal pressure on the whole surface
  18. I'm giving you the obvious answer... build a tank.. a big one.
  19. IMHO :smln: , I think it looks better on the non-straight side
