  1. I think using seachem nitrogen which contains KNO3 would best suit my needs. But at how much?
  2. Yeah, but would that be enough? Or should I dose Seachem Nitrogen as well?
  3. I recently bought some of Valrays Fertilizer on trademe, and now realize that there is a lack of nitrates, I assume this is due to the supplier thinking that there will be fish producing ammonia, nitrites, nitrates ect. This solutions contains 2% Magnesium Sulfate (MgSO4) 8% Potassium Sulfate (K2SO4) 3% Potassium Nitrate (KNO3) 4% Trace Elements 83% Water So N:P:K in these ratios 3:0:19? Or am I working these ratios wrong? I beleive the common ratio is 4:1:4. So do I need to add nitrates? And if I do, where can I source nitrates? Thanks
  4. Is the tank heated? Starting to get a bit cool.
  5. That's an awesome response from animates, well done

  10. Ended up getting 2 14W bulbs, fit like a charm  Got some excel as well, flourish, plants and I'm away :spop:
  11. Maybe :digH: Once I get these bulbs in would dosing Flourish and Comprehensive be enough? Specs Tank: 40x25x28cm (22L) Lighting: 2x15W T2 Substrate: Flourite Black Sand Planned Plants: Dwarf Hairgrass and Glosso Or would I need to dose something else as well? Or could I just use Valyrays (trademe) plant fertilizer?
  12. :slfg: it is a bayonet fitting, problem is that the base of this bulb is tiny, and it's too hard to push in and turn in such a small place. Tempting to grab the bulb and twist, but I've already broken one doing that
  13. Bought a new fixture and two 15w cool daylight bulbs, but this damn thing is to hard to screw in! :an!gry any tips? :slfg:
  14. Thanks I will be going with some kind of glosso, depends on the availability of them I guess

    unknown worm

Interesting. I have had similar in some of my tanks. Never bothered to exterminate them as they didn't seem to affect the turtle or fish.

    unknown worm

Could it be pin worms? I remember a thread on a turtle forum about it. Check this thread out http://www.turtleforum.com/forum/upload/index.php?showtopic=146172&hl=&fromsearch=1
  19. Pretty much, if it's clogging too much maybe your over feeding, which can lead to ammonia spikes. It's not particularly good washing the filter too often as you can disrupt the colonies (IMO).
  20. Forever and ever :slfg: now seriously you will still be doing 30% WCs when it is cycled. But as per Blueether, when you're tank is cycled (0ppm Ammonia, 0ppm Nitrites and xppm nitrates)
  21. Seemed like a good cheap fixture, got the wrong colored bulb, might get another fixture and 2 x 23W 5000K bulbs Cheers, no plans on stocking yet, I quite like dwarf rasboras or emerald rasboras
