  1. +1 you will need a cycled tank. You're tank will not be cycled due to being in coldwater. Plus it takes 6 weeks to cycle the tank. Suggestions Go buy an ammonia, nitrite and nitrate test kit. Put in your heater and put your filter on. Once your guppies arrive do large daily water change until tank is cycled. IMO 50 guppies is way too much for a 3 foot tank. Plus fry. You can't put them with the angel fish, then don't take them, unless you want to do 50-90% daily water changes and run the risk of getting white spot due to stress.
  2. I googled it and found it in the second line

    The What's Up? thread.

Went in for the Council Grant interview today. I was asked an interesting question. Well not directly but what is freshwater biology called (or is it just called freshwater biology)? They asked me if I wanted to be a marine biologist when I'm older and I said it interests me, but is most likely the back up plan if med school fails. Also I've had this mysterious fry for a while now and it's about 1cm long now. When would it be safe to put into the 540L? The current tank it's in isn't big enough for a heater and it's getting pretty chilly now.
  4. I beleive that is the banned oxygen weed (common in Taupo rivers and on the lake) Not sure about the nitella?
  5. It's a lot of moss! Good price IMO because most people pay $5 per bunch  Thanks
  6. Hi all Can someone ID this moss? http://www.trademe.co.nz/a.aspx?id=472598173 Also how would you clean it before putting it into a tropical tank? Thanks
  7. The filter media will "starve" without enough ammonia?
  8. Just a few are they all in use? Just do it. When I re set up my nano planted (maybe sometime in the near future) I am going to be using an external.
  9. You should see a phase with nitrites then nitrates. But if your getting nitrates :dunno:
  10. They're teaching it in year 12/6th form calculus, I think I screwed up my test today but TGIF! :slfg: Yeah there are algorithms to get them into place
  11. Hardscapes bit different though...
  12. Umm I'm not really sure? :slfg: things like Dijkstras, Prims, Kruskals algorithms, minimum spanning trees, Euler/Hamiltonian circuits/paths kind of stuff I guess :digH: Not bad Zev  I can do a 3x3x3 in minute and a half or less, and a 5x5x5 in under 5 minutes (pretty much like a 3x3x3 but you solve the centers first then solve like a 3x3x3)
  13. [There was a type of cichilids in Asian (Singapore) countries who use them for feet "massages"] I have heard there are mollies or platties (one of the two) in a hot lake near Taupo. What about trout? I assume not?
  14. :slfg: A bit of a random thought during a study break (networks.... :nilly: ) Who can solve rubiks cubes? Just curious :smln:
  15. How about an indoor pond? Seen it done on a turtle forum.
  16. I saw that, but it wouldn't have the right fruit to eat? :dunno: seemed very particular

Haha, it's a youth thing which funds hobbies, academics, sports ect. I applied for equiptment and decorations for the aquarium. Not a bigger one :slfg:

Got short listed for a council grant for turtle keeping!
  19. Horizon, eventually you're going to have to upgrade to a bigger tank. Why not now? It would better benefit your fish and pretty much stop this argument.
  20. You're joking right? I had a 50G which was deeper than that.

    Mystery fry

Looks like my mystery fry :slfg: I was thinking of putting it in a bigger tank and slowly upping the temperature now because it's getting colder.
  22. Would it not die going from cold water to tropical? Thought the change in temperature would kill them off.
  23. Hi Two different bacteria turn ammonia into nitrites and then to nitrates. What method to use? Depends. Fish less cycling is the more fish friendly version of cycling. But some people use fish so the correct amount of bacteria is formed. Pros and cons to both methods but I like the fish less method. Maybe someone on the forum that is local to you can offer you some?
  24. I would think for cover so the baby turtles feel more safe, also provides some greens. Those turtles look so small in that tank!
