  1. thanks for all of the input. Based on availability at Harvey Norman today, I was leaning towards the D3200. Manly because of its guide mode which seems to be very helpful in learning photography. I had a look at a Canon 650D I think it was, but it had less megapixels, less auto focus points (9 vs 11) and didn't have a guide mode from what I heard. She tried to convince me to get a canon, and one of the plus sides is that it was lighter, but I feel for an entry level camera the D3200 would be good. But there is no articulating screen but I guess it's not a major. I was playing around tonight with my dads old film SLR, it's pretty cool still had auto focus and just getting a general feel for it as well. Quite interesting to see that the film has different ISO levels. It was a Nikon camera as well and he has two lenses for it, which could be helpful. In regards to lenses, when at Harvey Norman today I saw the nikon's I think it was ~50mm f1.8 lens. Would that be good for macro photography? I think the minimum shooting distance was like 0.45m or something similar. Again, thank you to all that have contributed their opinion
  2. Hi I'm interested at getting a DSLR camera but I am a little new on the whole DSLR camera thing. The main camera that I have looked at is the Nikon D3200. To me it sounds like a good entry level camera. But I am curious to see what other people might recommend  . Also what lenses people might recommend? I like the look of macro images, but also enjoy taking shots of nature/landscapes I guess Also with regards to aperture, shutter speed and ISO, is the following correct? Aperture is the size of the hole that light can travel through. The larger the hole, the more light that can enter making the image seem more bright Shutter speed, I guess is the speed of the shutter and how long it allows light to enter. The higher the shutter number the less time its open ie 100 is 1/100 and 20 is 1/20 ISO I am a little confused on. Lower ISO the brighter it is but what actually is ISO? Also I was looking at the Nikon D3200 and it has a 24mp sensor. A few of the reviews I have watched suggest that this may not be a good thing? As you get an increased background noise? It is hard for me to comprehend why but if anyone can shed some light on this that would be great Suggestions are welcomed Thanks in advance Matt

    Sump question

Thanks for the responses  In regards to sump vs canister, I figure the best form of canister for a tank of this size is probably a FX5? And they are going for $600 - $700 vs a sump which I figure is the price of a tank ($50) a pump ($100 - $200) and media ($100) plus some other bits ($50) so probably about $350. I have been keeping my eye out for cheaper FX5s on sites like TM, I am trying to find one in Wellington to save on cost of shipping.

    Sump question

Hi These holidays I was thinking of making a sump for my tank (530L). So firstly I was looking under my tank and the stand is divided in the middle, so the size of the sump would be limited unless I would be able to pull off one end of the stands sides. But if I cannot remove a side (I would prefer not to remove a side) I figure that the maximum size of the sump is about 700x400x450mm so 126L. Would a sump of this size be sufficient? Secondly, I was thinking of having two overflows, one at each end of the tank. Also because this is a turtle tank, the water level is not at the top of the aquarium, but about 20cm below the top. The return pump would return the water at more or less the centre of the aquarium. So am I correct in assuming this: drilling an overflow at say 25cm below the top, and having an overflow box which will determine the height of the water. This might be a little bit of a stupid question, but is this how a sump works? Water flows over the overflow box, through a hole in the side of the aquarium, into PVC pipes. These PVC pipes then go under the aquarium and into one end of the sump. Water flows through the sump to the other end going through the media. At the other end of the sump there will be a return pump, pumping water back into the aquarium, causing the water level to rise and overflow into the boxes and causing the process to repeat continuously. Also with regards to evaporation: 1) is it okay to cover the sump to prevent excessive evaporation? I figure the water will have enough oxygen for the bacteria to live, via surface disruption in the aquarium? Also excessive evaporation would be undesirable due to it warping the wooden part of the stand. 2)when evaporation occurs, the water level in the aquarium will stay constant and the water level in the sump will drop. Would I have to be constantly adding water to the system (to prevent the sump running dry)? Or if I were to get an auto top up system set up would this resolve this problem. I need to look into how an auto top up system works but if someone would like to explain it to me that would be great  . Also people say that sumps can flood. Can someone please explain this to me? For more information on the aquarium please see: viewtopic.php?f=4&t=57475 Any contribution or information is appreciated! Thanks Matt

I myself (as a male) think in a very logical manner (well I think I do :slfg: ), hence why I take subjects like the sciences and Maths. But even on one of my English essays my teacher wrote "Your essay is too formulaic."

I went for a hour and a half walk this morning at 6. Was a nice day and I got to talk to my mate about stuff on the beach. We probably walked about 10kms or so :yaw1: Then a swim in the pool (I was quite suprised to find it was 19C-20C this morning). Absolutely knackered now though.
  18. Interesting, the only other place other than google I can think of is libraries, most of the information in them I can find from google anyway. Being 17, I don't think I would be able to comprehend more advance physics without learning the basics through college first.
  19. But in relative velocity, you are traveling faster than the speed of light, relative to the ground or whatever the train is traveling the speed of light too (does that make sense?). If you think about as a mass (rest mass<0) travels at light speed it's mass will become infinite, what happens if it travels faster than the speed of light?
  20. Ok a theoretical question then, if I am in a train travelling at the speed of light, and I take a step forward, what happens? Clearly an "impossible" situation because the mass of the train would become infinite and things would become different.
  21. Infinite is an interesting concept. I was in Maths one day we were doing graphing and the teacher said something about infinite. So my mate turns round and says infinite plus one. That gets the mind going. Like if it is forever growing, what if it was that slightest bit further ect. And there is an infinite amount of numbers, and an infinite amount of numbers between 1 and 2. We ponder so many things haha

They're fitting a niche market, with a product bigger than an iPod touch yet smaller than an iPad. Yet more functional than an iPod touch, with a slightly higher price tag. Compare it to other non apple tablets on the market as well. You also get features from Apple.
