  1. Great to hear you saved your fish.. This is how I get around the issue regarding the co2 produced at night: I also use DIY co2 but I have the air hose go into the filter chamber of an old Eheim internal filter where the co2 gets absorbed in the turbulent waterflow. I have that filter on a timer so it stops an hour before lights go off and then during the night the co2 just slowly builds up inside the that filter and when it starts in the morning (1 hr before lights come on it slowly starts putting the co2 into the water again.. This way you don't loose the co2 produced at night and should the filter fill with too much co2 it will just start bubbling out of it and go to the surface.
  2. You got it Josh! The statement was not pointless because comparissons were made between fish and humans and how the government is trying to keep out diseases..
  3. They do: (from immigration NZ website)
  4. But that's a matter of opinion... coldwater vs tropical fish is in 99.9% of cases not a matter of opinion (don't get me wrong I am tired of wading through that stuff too)
  5. There are many things on TM that could have more categories IMO.. so yes.. agree!
  6. Yep I've got the same problem.. thermostat set to 26 but water is around 30... It is definitely because of your filter motor heating the water a bit.. Best you can do is try to keep the room well ventilated
  7. Haha yeah got that email too.. Everything shown in that email is true. I have been to the faroe islands 2 times but have never witnessed this.. Carlos is right. It is a very old tradition that is kept alive for some reason. In the old days living on a few tiny islands in the atlantic you had to eat whatever you could get your hands on. But no it is not necessary anymore even though I believe Carlos is wrong about one thing: I don't think there are any KFC or McD on the Faroe islands I would also just like to say that it is a very isolated tiny community with their own set of rules (even their own government) and most danes do not agree with the killing of pilot whales. Edit: Sorry don't actually know if it was Carlos or Siran writting this
  8. Hahaha such a geek! (I do the same but in Revit ) How much water will you have in there? to just above the shallow area?
  9. Yeah that's a good one! Who would have thought one of the largest growers/exporters of aquarium plants is in Denmark!!
  10. Try putting all your info into this site: http://aqadvisor.com/ It will tell you your stocking % and % of filtration you have/need I think it is quite conservative but an awesome tool! Remember to first click the little words saying "change to liters" and "change to cm" or something like that.
  11. The Newmarket one opened up not long ago very close to my work so have been in there quite a few times to check out products.. I never buy anything because I think their fishtanks are are horror show with diry tanks and manky looking fish and REALLY BAD (if any) labelling on the tanks. Besides it seems the staff is incredibly poorly educated in the animals they are selling.. Don't like these shops at all
  12. Yeah my wife bought one of these for $10 on TM for a sculpture thingy.. they are tiny and will do what you are after I think
  13. Very nice.. Never seen a Heron chick, hope you manage to get a photo of it
  14. Google says Zebra Loaches only grow to 10cm.. So one of those will be fine Oh.. do you know what kind of snails you have? Trumpet (spiral pointy) or Ramshorn (just spiral) Trumpet snails have a really hard shell so loaches will only eat small ones while ramshorn have a softer shell and the loaches will make a hole in the shell and then yank the little fella out of his shell... very effective!
  15. Have a look on google earth... You can definitely see the main spots where driftwood always gather. And yes beside big river mouths (that comes through forrested land)
  16. Agree, I got 3 Zebra Loaches for my 300L tank to control snails. After 2 weeks they had annihilated the snail population to only a few very small ones that can be seen at night and the loaches are still only 6-7cm.
  17. +1 This is what an auction is all about... putting another bid in before the hammer falls and stressing out the competition. Some like it and some don't. Deal with it or don't use it... Just don't complain about it.
  18. From a norwegian site that sells aquarium stuff online.. (can't remember where but I had the pic on my computer) It was listed under Java Moss which I don't believe it is... Edit: Try google image this: javamose_akvarie_1
  19. And here is how it's done:
  20. I showed the picture of your setup to an engineer at work this morning and he agree that your current setup is very dangerous.. Even just a few cross bracing timbers between a few of the legs will do the trick until you clad the stand with ply or similar.
  21. Yeah maybe i'm just paranoid here because I am used to designing buildings not to fall over but with several tons of fishtank sitting on that thing I would definitely put some ply or cross bracing on the back/sides to prevent it from topling over in the unlikely event that it was pushed too hard from the side.. Legs are more than capable of taking the load of the tank but without bracing you are only reliying on the fixings to keep it from topling.. Just my paranoid 2 cents worth..
  22. Managed to record a video as well.. (excuse the poor lighting but it is very dim and I had to shoot it from the other room on full zoom not to scare them )
  23. Nice tank Anthony.. and good work Will be cool to see it with fish and lights on.. Is there no bracing on the tank stand?
