OK. Does biosecurity allow french frog in a yurt ? (I wanna live in a yurt, I wanna live in a yurt, I wanna live in a yurt, I wanna live in a yurt, I wanna live in a yurt, I wanna live in a yurt, I wanna live in a yurt, I wanna live in a yurt...)

  10. Whales hunters are illegal when they hunt in protected areas / protected species. They call it "research" but it is not. They can study whales without killing them. Everyone knows it. Shark hunters are decimating about 100 millions sharks each year; species are seriously endangered by this. Seals hunters are particularly barbarics, especially in South Africa. So what ? This is legal. But is this bearable ? I admire Paul Watson and his Sea Shepherd's team to give a voice to the legally silent ones.
  11. Is this balance just possible or a gentle utopia when we consider reality here and now ? I think to achieve this, we have to change our mind about the way we produce and the way we use energy and raw material. Imo, we are still in the 19th century, as if our world was infinite.
  12. Wow ! And what a beautiful staghorn !!! :bounce: Are tillandsias concerned by biosecurity ? If it is ok, you could make beautiful pretty care free tropical walls with.
  13. +1 Good nutritional value I think. My fishes just love them. You just have to care on which plants they are (no toxic ones). We also eat it. Fir or oak honeys not comes from the nectar of flowers but from honeydew produced by aphids or cochineals honeybees collect.
  14. Disruptive for the dog's behavior. It's like talking in a foreign language to them. We should learn to speak "dog" if we want them happy and well-balanced. +6 I totally agree However, imho, a dwarf siberian tiger (1,99m than the usual 3,50) is the best choice ever than any dogs. Good guardian and they do love kids. As hotdog though.
  15. @ Alan & Adrienne : Yes, you're right, the timber frame houses are more adapted for. I wasn't thinking about building something as higher as this one. Even if it is technically possible, it is just psychologically unconceivable because of the trauma. I was just impressed by the speed and thinking of the homeless. I would tend to say yes, but according to you, is it a good alternative to use prefab wood frame homes instead of brick houses, usual in Chch ? And as Ira said, what about the permits ? I don't know the shipping cost though, but does it sound definitely as sci-fi to import it if it can't be produced locally ? (sorry, I'm ignorant about NZ economy and the costs inherent in shipping) Because, as you said Adrienne, if NZ doesn't have the workforce, anyone can build pretty fastly a pre-engineered wood frame panelized home with a project manager or just in DIY, depending on experience. There are now some models, with eco-construction standards, healthy and well insulated, which don't look like prefabs anymore. :dunno:
  16. Yes I know it's not so simple. Here are the only informations I could find about :
  17. According to you, is it possible to use this to rebuilt Chch ? I'm thinking to the homeless people, providing them fastly a place to live.
  18. Height : 50 m # of levels : 15 Earthquake resistance : magnitude 9 # of workers : 300 Heating : geothermal energy + solar panels Building : 2 days Insulation + interior decoration : 4 days Total : 6 days... Water saving included. Just look at this...
  19. Just read the whole topic. You guys made me laugh  Pictures let me speechless !... WANNA CHANGE OCCUPATION !!! :nilly: ps: too bad for beehives (making some manuka honey is one of my dreams) and well done about the insulation, Mark ! I'm impressed.
  20. Japan observes minute's silence one week after the quake. The fortitude and dignity of those poor people is highly impressive, deeply moving above all. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-asia-pacific-12784313
  21. What a good job. Love it.
  22. Earthquake would have moved Japan 2.4 m and shifted earth on its axis (about 10 cm, loss of 1.6µs)... “We know that one GPS station moved (2.4 meters), GSI, (the Geospatial Information Authority) in Japan showing the pattern of shift over a large area is consistent with about that much shift of the land mass;” stated Kenneth Hudnut, a US Geological Survey geophysicist. There are no consequences for life on earth but it's weird. Because we use to think there are some things fixed for ever and we imagine them as the framework of reality. But everything moves, even the time.
  23. I hope it's true for japanese people but as you wrote, 80% of our power is generated by nuclear and we used to read those kind of optimistic and triumphant declarations... Not to mention idyllic ads on TV. In 1986, Tchernobyl, our government swore there was absolutely no raising of radioactivity during this period. Once bitten, twice shy. May be it's better to create a new topic about energy (not only about nuclear) ?
