  1. And the winner is.. :slfg:
  2. The point is you have an opportunity to get a good job in a famous company. Earthquake can happen anywhere. You can find another friends as well and as Caryl said, with internet & Skype, family and old friends are not too far away. So, imo, the question is not about Chch in particular but if you are able to manage another long distance relationship with your girlfriend. As you wrote, "she did an exchange in japan for a year. In a couple of weeks, we will have been together 5 years". Do both of you want to create another distance ?

  4. "LIDO (Listening to the Deep Ocean environment) proposes to establish a first nucleus of a regional network of multidisciplinary seafloor observatories contributing to the coordination of high quality research in the ESONET NoE by allowing the long-term monitoring of Geohazards and Marine Ambient Noise in the Mediterranean Sea and the adjacent Atlantic waters. Specific activities are addressed by long-term monitoring of earthquakes and tsunamis and the characterisation of ambient noise induced by marine mammals (Bioacoustics) and anthropogenic noise." You can choose the area on the 3D globe. There's also a sound library (heading on the left) where we can listen to some samples (bioacoustic, shipping, geophysic experiment, earthquake, etc.). Scientific and ergonomic. - http://listentothedeep.com./acoustics/index.html
  5. Mmm... Not necessarily. You could create some planted islands, a nymphea with a bush of several species around, etc. But ok : mineral tank is nice too, especially the beautiful one you got in your head.
  6. I'm reading this topic and remembering Donna entrusted her turtles to somebody. Can't remember if it was to LA...

  14. :sml1: I visualized it as a Tex Avery's cartoon !
  15. I particularly appreciate the one with the fish and the broken forearm too and some other ones.
  16. I love this thought As if to be something, the "nothing" is required before. About the way we see the world, do you know this book from Oliver Sachs, neurologist : "The Man Who Mistook His Wife for a Hat" ? Reality doesn't exist only by itself. Our brain build reality inside. Humans are not rational : they rationalize reality. That's pretty different.
  17. Sorry, I haven't read the whole topic : about the lighting, have you considered doing it with LEDs ? Could be great : sunrise, sunset effects with all the spectrum changings. A lower consumption with a longer lifetime than MH.
  18. What a... a... a... WHAT IS THIS ? Wow wow wow ! MARVELLOUS !!! Me too ! !drool: !drool: !drool:

  21. Tourists too... I just wanna add it is not a criticism of NZ in particular. It is the same thing everywhere.
  22. Yes, it's an iris. Human one. This is the very first time I saw it with all its reliefs. The iris appears as a crater; the pupil as a black hole. I posted this picture because I like to see similarities between things completely different at first. Looking at things with some differents perspectives; if you watched the Dead Poets Society movie, you know what I mean. So it's weird because when we're looking at / talking to someone, we do it right in the eyes. All the person is in the eyes. If they want to anonymise, they just hide the eyes. As we say : eyes are the mirror of the soul. But here, we can see eye as just a hole. And a hole, is nothing, an absence of material. Do you get the philosophical aspect of this picture ? Now, take a look on Erik Johansson's job. - http://alltelleringet.com/
  23. http://tvnz.co.nz/fair-go/great-shark-mural-debate-5-43-video-4179027  And about the economical aspects, they should read this imo :
