  1. The first one is a full tank shot. Sorry, i don't have anyone else. I'm speaking about air pollution Compared to Europe, your sky is so clean... And I think NZ rivers are pretty much pure than ours, aren't they ? It's a kind of mess here. We just can't eat freshwater fishes cause of PCB and so on...
  2. Interesting project. As Livingart said, the most difficult thing is to keep the tank cold... With about 4kgs of live rocks (choose premium quality cause its the kidney of your tank) and weekly water changes, you can go for it. You don't need a lot of gear. But unlike freshwater, cycling a marine tank takes several months. Patience is the first thing you need. Good streaming is also very important. What are the dimensions of your tank ?
  3. Thanks for your comments Yep, it's my tank. 20 liters (40x20x25 cm) I set it up in july 2009. Natural light and no filter. I use floating plants to clean water (pistia, lemna, salvina). Given that they need pretty acidic water, I use oak leaves to get that and rain for the water. You're lucky in NZ cause there's no pollution View from above I've been told about that fish by a friend of mine who works in a pet shop. No one wanted to buy them (too small, no bright color... and difficult to feed them). He knows i'm fond of little species. So I discovered thoses little fishes (length : 3cm max).
  4. Here's a specific (i'm not sure about the word...) tank, just for indostomus crocodilius. One of its inhabitants. There are five of these little guys here. Pretty acidic water (ph 6.5) and no filter, in order to keep micro fauna safe because those fishes doesn't eat anything else but daphnias, copepods and so on.
  5. It's a low tech / low cost tank. No filter, no skimmer. Just a 6500K fluorescent bulb (23w) and 2.7 w blue led. One nano koralia and 3 kgs of live rocks. I just change 10 % of water every week ps : you use kilograms and centimeters or pounds and inches ?...
  6. Here's with blue background light (using LED)
  7. Hi everyone I started my first saltwater tank last year, on may. I was fascinated by marine algaes and wanted to create a marine planted tank. At first, I didn't want corals because I thought it was too hard to maintain, much too chemistry and a lot of expensive equipment to get. So, algae and all the micro stuffes we get with live rocks would be enough for me. It was definitly indubitable. Indeed, I guess I cracked up... Here's my 20 liters marine tank.
  8. Thanks for your posts and your french words. Real kind of you ! Supasi, i discovered FNZAS thanks to you. On Aquatic plant central (was curious about el natural), I saw your topic about the exploration of a drainage stream. Then i read your blog and found FNZAS link :bounce: Well : i'm gonna post some pictures.
  9. Hi, my name's Marc, I live in France and I discovered your website one month ago. One of my dreams is to come in NZ 'cause I think it's an awesome place. So I'm really glad to be here ! I've been an aquarist for 3 years. I do appreciate to create some nano worlds in fresh, brackish and marine water But I also have 34, 53 and 80 gallons tanks and two ponds in my garden. I rather prefer small species and natural environment Marc Ps : in advance, sorry for my english, i'm still learning... Ps 2 : by the way do you use US or UK gallons in NZ ? In France, we use liters.
