    The What's Up? thread.

I have been snail catching from the pond. I now have several hundred of them, plus some leaves with eggs, for the kids to take back to ChCh to give to Donna's turtles

    The What's Up? thread.

We have been to a 50th wedding anniversary party. The whole family is very musical and many play in various bands so it was great fun. Not only did the couple make it to their 50th but also attending were all the members of their bridal party! (They had a lovely chocolate cake there too)
  3. We had a blue heron attempt to go for our goldfish once. Luckily we saw it and chased it away before managing to cover the pond before it was successful. It hasn't come back since as the surrounding plants have grown higher than the fence so there is nowhere for the bird to perch then land to go fishing :happy2:
  4. Sounds cheaper to fix! My daughter fears she has blown a head gasket &c:ry

    Blue Ram help

Just because one fish is showing signs of illness and the others are not does not necessarily mean it is the fish itself and not water conditions or something else. Some fish are more sensitive than others so will show signs of illness or react to poor conditions before other, hardier, fish do so.
  6. Let them go through into the bucket but hold a net or sieve over the side when you empty the bucket to catch the fish and then throw them back into the tank. Leopards love hanging around the siphon tube!

    Oxygen shells

The ones I have seen in the water do not fizz. I think they supposedly release the oxygen so slowly you don't notice the occasional bubble :dunno:
  8. As an aside, I just thought Wellydave liked his gumboots :dunno:

from the Eureka Skydeck, 88th floor, in Melbourne.
  10. I'm wondering why it required a dawn raid!
  11. I have thick blue barrels too. They hold around 30L and were used by Resene to bring paint powder in from Italy. All they needed was a rinse.

Melbourne, where is the sunny weather you promised??
  14. Where is the federation supposed to get the money to fund adding new fish to the import list? We are a group of hobbyists, many on benefits or retired. We charge $10 capitation per year and people complain that is too much. Where do we get the $$$ to apply for new fish? :dunno: People are all for saying "I'd be willing to pay for that" but when it comes to actually putting their money where their mouth is - no dice. On one occasion when someone actually went to the trouble of importing specific fish which were on the allowable list, after gathering money from others to do so, it all went pearshaped and there is still an outstanding warrant from small claims court. Some were out of pocket several thousand dollars.

I am in Melbourne and had a lovely day at the Healesville Sanctuary seeing lots of birds and animals :happy2:

    The What's Up? thread.

I am all packed to head to Melbourne. Hope you don't need your torch for a few days Joe as you left it in the back of the car. Builders have got the roof on the garage extension. Hopefully we will see more progress on our return. Daughter is taking photos while we are away.
  17. That was us! MX5's are called Miatas as well. We had a lovely lunch at the cafe opposite automobilia. Half of us lunched in Naseby and the other half went to Ranfurly as there were too many of us for one place!
  18. Grant and I just had a 10 day trip around the South Island with the MX5 club. We had anywhere from 24 - 36 cars on some of the runs. Some of us participated in the whole tour, which started in Christchurch then went down the east coast to Dunedin, across to Invercargill and Queenstown, then to Franz Josef and up the west coast, finishing at Blackball. We then split as some headed for Nelson, others to Blenheim or back to Christchurch. We had a great time. This link has just 178 of the 4,281 pics (12.9Gb) taken. For those who want a snapshot of the South Island... http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v144/ ... ur%202012/ No need to comment negatively on the cars ruining the shots thank you. We have heard all the jokes and disparaging remarks. We have these cars because they are cheap to buy, cheap to run and great fun to drive.

    fish you hate.

I'm with F15hguy, hate those red parrots. They look like 2 different species of fish have been stuck together - badly.
  21. We try to let people have their say - as long as they do not get personal. As soon as they do, we have to shut it down. This thread so far has been funny, wide ranging, polite and friendly. If it stays that way you can keep going
  22. There is a thread on enclosures, but not specifically native reptile ones.
  23. Or, if it is like a dark green sheet, it is cyanobacter. I would not describe it as hairy though so perhaps you have two separate problems. Any chance of a pic before we start offering advice?
  24. Having seen people under the influence of alcohol and drugs I think it is pretty obvious who the idiots are I think benefits should be available for everyone to buy an aquarium or pond as the influence of fish is very calming and would make a lot of people feel much happier and more able to cope with life.
