  1. Where is the federation supposed to get the money to fund adding new fish to the import list? We are a group of hobbyists, many on benefits or retired. We charge $10 capitation per year and people complain that is too much. Where do we get the $$$ to apply for new fish? :dunno: People are all for saying "I'd be willing to pay for that" but when it comes to actually putting their money where their mouth is - no dice. On one occasion when someone actually went to the trouble of importing specific fish which were on the allowable list, after gathering money from others to do so, it all went pearshaped and there is still an outstanding warrant from small claims court. Some were out of pocket several thousand dollars.

    The What's Up? thread.

I am in Melbourne and had a lovely day at the Healesville Sanctuary seeing lots of birds and animals :happy2:

    The What's Up? thread.

I am all packed to head to Melbourne. Hope you don't need your torch for a few days Joe as you left it in the back of the car. Builders have got the roof on the garage extension. Hopefully we will see more progress on our return. Daughter is taking photos while we are away.
  4. That was us! MX5's are called Miatas as well. We had a lovely lunch at the cafe opposite automobilia. Half of us lunched in Naseby and the other half went to Ranfurly as there were too many of us for one place!
  5. Grant and I just had a 10 day trip around the South Island with the MX5 club. We had anywhere from 24 - 36 cars on some of the runs. Some of us participated in the whole tour, which started in Christchurch then went down the east coast to Dunedin, across to Invercargill and Queenstown, then to Franz Josef and up the west coast, finishing at Blackball. We then split as some headed for Nelson, others to Blenheim or back to Christchurch. We had a great time. This link has just 178 of the 4,281 pics (12.9Gb) taken. For those who want a snapshot of the South Island... http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v144/ ... ur%202012/ No need to comment negatively on the cars ruining the shots thank you. We have heard all the jokes and disparaging remarks. We have these cars because they are cheap to buy, cheap to run and great fun to drive.

    fish you hate.

I'm with F15hguy, hate those red parrots. They look like 2 different species of fish have been stuck together - badly.
  8. We try to let people have their say - as long as they do not get personal. As soon as they do, we have to shut it down. This thread so far has been funny, wide ranging, polite and friendly. If it stays that way you can keep going
  9. There is a thread on enclosures, but not specifically native reptile ones.
  10. Or, if it is like a dark green sheet, it is cyanobacter. I would not describe it as hairy though so perhaps you have two separate problems. Any chance of a pic before we start offering advice?
  11. Having seen people under the influence of alcohol and drugs I think it is pretty obvious who the idiots are I think benefits should be available for everyone to buy an aquarium or pond as the influence of fish is very calming and would make a lot of people feel much happier and more able to cope with life.
  12. I hold the tube so it sucks up the surface crud so it doesn't get disturbed all the time as the fish rummage through the plants at ground level.
  13. You would be best to plant them as soon as they arrive, whether this be all at once or over time. Test strips are not very reliable. A liquid test kit would be much better.
  14. And since you don't know what colour dad or other ancestors were, fry could be a range of colours.

    The What's Up? thread.

Just got back from spotlighting. Nobody was pushed in - or fell  We caught (and released) red finned bully, banded kokopu, freshwater crayfish, long finned eels, and some inanga. :happy2:
  16. We have just returned from a road trip around the South Island. We had people from all around the country, plus some Aussies and others born in Europe. They all loved the South Island roads, especially the North Islanders, simply because of the lack of traffic allowed them to travel long distances at the 100km speed limit! We did not dispose of any fish during this time - except for those that came pan fried or battered with chips.
  17. How would you like me to bring Stella around for a visit Joe? If it stops raining, we will go spotlighting to Whites Bay if you want to come along.

We are home at last and have a special visitor - Stella is with us!!! :happy1:

    The What's Up? thread.

We are now at Franz Josef. It snowed at Queenstown and we were able to play in it at the top of the Cardona Ranges. Top down all day, with sunshine, until just before Franz Josef when it started to rain with a bit if hail. Had a meal at Speights. Nicely presented but otherwise noting to write home about. Tomorrow will probably head up the glacier then heading further up the coast, to spend the next night at the Blackball Hilton.

We are sitting in the Kingston railway station waiting for our ride on the Kingston Flyer. For those who don't know, it is a steam train. It poured all the way from Invercargill to here and I fear it will still be raining when we get to Queenstown  We will be on Cue TV at 5.30 apparently 8)

Sorry about that but we were here such a short time and with others, doing other things If you are at the Coachman Inn at 8.15 you will see us heading out while being filmed by Cue TV  Come earlier and say hi. We are out of bed. Either look for red MX5 with FIXAPC plate or come upstairs to unit 8

Caught up with Jim R tonight and he took us around to Si-sphinx so we got to see the planted tank before he strips it  Even saw the tail end of a blue phantom!
