  1. Fish can be blinded through disease or injury. Their other senses seem to compensate for the loss and they manage to survive quite well without sight. Angelfish should live 10+ years.
  2. It takes all sorts to make a forum. Some are quick to learn and look for new ideas whereas others like to stick to the tried and true. We are all different and just because someone disagrees or says an idea won't work, doesn't mean you have to give up. If everyone did that nothing would ever get achieved anywhere! As signing up to this forum does not give you membership to anything else, you do not have to cancel anything, just stop posting. Very simple.

    Hi from Dunedin

There is a very active, and friendly, aquarium club in Dunedin. Our Home Page has their details. They are also on Facebook. They will have plenty of people to offer advice locally and maybe even offer cheap plants and/or fish. There is no point testing the tank water if it has nothing else in it. You need an ammonia source to start the cycle and where you get that from depends on how you cycle. I suggest you contact the local club as I am sure someone could offer you some already cycled filter media.

I have just made two booze soaked (I'm not eating them) Christmas cakes. They need to cook for 4 hours so I am off for a swim and lunch with friends. The builders are ripping off our old, munted, guttering and replacing all. Almost finished the garage extension too.
  5. Car has been checked and wasn't as bad as she feared. Cam belt and water pump. Also needs a new driver's window motor and switch.

    joke.

An Englishman, a Scotsman, an Irishman, a Welshman, a Latvian, a Turk, an Aussie, a German, a Yank, an Egyptian, a Jap, a Mexican, a Spaniard, a Russian, a Pole, a Lithuanian, a Swede, a Finn, an Israeli, a Romanian, a Bulgarian, a Serb, a Swiss, a Greek, a Singaporean, an Italian, a Norwegian, a Libyan, a Muslim, a Hindu, a Buddhist and an African went to a night club. The bouncer said, "Sorry lads............. I can't let you in without a Thai.
  8. Caper asked for advice and opinions on ways to ease her whiplash, not for everyone to give their opinions on the efficacy or otherwise of alternative treatments or therapy. Keep your opinions on alternative treatments to yourselves. It is up to Caper to decide whether to follow through on any advice offered. Anthony she said at the beginning (I think) that she was in a car accident. It is not a work related injury - unless a stripped to the waist male builder with great abs walked through her office and she isn't admitting it
  9. Number and size of sinkers depends on size of driftwood. If it is just in a Q tank, put a rock on top of it.

    joke.

    Err, yes they can
  11. AU$35 (NZ$45.78) for one adult. We had seen it all in just over 2 hours whereas we were 5 hours in the museum (AU$10) and 5 1/2 at the zoo for AU$26.10 each.
  12. Quite frankly, we found the aquarium a disappointment. Very expensive for what you get. It also looked old and tired.
  13. Here is a link to my Photobucket albums from our recent trip to Melbourne. There are reptiles and other things we can't get here in several of the sub albums. The link goes to my Melbourne album. Look down the right hand side (or wherever depending on your setup) for the sub albums for places like the zoo, aquarium, Healesville Sanctuary and Upmarket Aquariums - a shop neat the Victoria Markets. They kindly allowed us to take photos. http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v144/ ... ct%202012/
  14. I do. Nicer looking eels than the other ones although the photography isn't so good

I have been snail catching from the pond. I now have several hundred of them, plus some leaves with eggs, for the kids to take back to ChCh to give to Donna's turtles

We have been to a 50th wedding anniversary party. The whole family is very musical and many play in various bands so it was great fun. Not only did the couple make it to their 50th but also attending were all the members of their bridal party! (They had a lovely chocolate cake there too)
  17. We had a blue heron attempt to go for our goldfish once. Luckily we saw it and chased it away before managing to cover the pond before it was successful. It hasn't come back since as the surrounding plants have grown higher than the fence so there is nowhere for the bird to perch then land to go fishing :happy2:
  18. Sounds cheaper to fix! My daughter fears she has blown a head gasket &c:ry

    Blue Ram help

Just because one fish is showing signs of illness and the others are not does not necessarily mean it is the fish itself and not water conditions or something else. Some fish are more sensitive than others so will show signs of illness or react to poor conditions before other, hardier, fish do so.
  20. Let them go through into the bucket but hold a net or sieve over the side when you empty the bucket to catch the fish and then throw them back into the tank. Leopards love hanging around the siphon tube!

    Oxygen shells

The ones I have seen in the water do not fizz. I think they supposedly release the oxygen so slowly you don't notice the occasional bubble :dunno:
  22. As an aside, I just thought Wellydave liked his gumboots :dunno:
