I found an excellent article on this subject on the PFK site and am adapting it for the Aquarium World They say the best salt for brackish tanks is the marine salt. Here is what they say about Tonic Salt: Tonic, or aquarium salt, is just plain old sodium chloride, often with a bit of anti-caking agent thrown in to make it easier to pour.

They are merely a colour morph of the standard Ancistrus sp. Used to be really expensive when first produced but now, with numbers growing, the price is dropping.

A well maintained and balanced aquarium should not have a major problem with algae once the tank has matured.

Never heard of aggressive corys. They are very laid back dudes 8)

The tonic salt has other minerals added whereas the coarse salt doesn't (and probably sits around telling rude jokes and passing wind )

If you are happy to pay freight, I would contact Organism in Christchurch as they get in quite a selection of corydoras regularly.

Post this question in a saltwater thread 2fishy so they see it and can advise. many of them don't read the rest of the forums.

2cm is certainly the smallest I would move them. Bristlenose fry don't seem to like being moved when they are smaller.

I am sure there are several Hamiltonians happy to visit you. Lights are for plants, not fish. Although fish like a night and day cycle they don't much care about the length of it. If you have plants you need about 12 hours per day. Get a timer so the lights come on automatically. Ours are set for around 10am to 10pm so we can enjoy them at night. Feed as often as you like, as long as they eat it all. Small amounts often is better than larger amounts less frequently.

Moving her in and out would be too much stress. Try a bit of moss but I don't think it will help.

Depends on the fish. If she gets too stressed you will have to get her out. Perhaps you ought to put the male in there instead! :lol:

Hi and welcome. You have some good plant growth starting there. I would get a backing sheet to hide the lines, lower the heaterstat and move it more horizontal to hid it, and get rid of the ship (a personal hate of mine - ships, divers, skeletons etc but a personal thing. If you like it then that's fine). They look like good sized barbs and well fed.

For those who thought their marine tanks used a lot of power, we just visited a small fruit processing factory today. Their power bill last month was $52,000 (usually "only" $45,000)

They get along fine at the moment you mean. Goldfish, unless they are the fancy variety, are better off in cold water (they will live longer) or better yet - a pond. They are very messy and need a lot more space than tropicals. A 4ft tank for 2 large goldfish is not understocked. What size is your tank Kyle?

Keep all critters out of it for more than 2 weeks. The whitespot will die without a host.

Please make contact with the Waikato Aquarium Club and get a member there to help you (several are regularly in here like Dave or HandS). Your tank must cycle and you have already added too many fish, plus unsuitable ones. Take the sharks, at least, back to the shop and preferably the fighter as well. If the angels are small enough they might make it but I have concerns.

Perhaps he just needs to grow a bit more Loopy.

If you belong to the Dunedin club, ask Gordon what substrate he uses in his Malawi tanks.

Polystyrene can make a big difference. One of my tanks is enclosed on 3 sides by solid wood and the other is exposed all sides except the back. The enclosed one keeps a much more even heat.
