  1. Are you sure it is hay Pegasus? I thought only barley straw worked.
  2. Please tell your wife a vase is never suitable for a goldfish!!!
  3. Decisions decisions. Grant and I were putting in our apologies for that meeting because of the expense but if we do that hunt as well we can justify it How fast will we know so we can book cheaper flights? :bounce:
  4. Keep the pond shaded and have lots of plants to cover 3/4 of the water surface. 200 - 300L isn't very big for a pond. Don't add any more fish. Get the filter running again. Regularly run the hose in it so it overflows and replaces some of the water.
  5. Post this in the saltwater section as many of the salties don't read the rest of the forums. Plenty of help there.
  6. We have bought fish while travelling and kept them in a Click Clack plastic container as they don't leak. We filled a 3L bottle with water from the place of purchase and when we stopped for nights we would do a partial water change and run an airhose in the container overnight. Travelled 4 days like this and fish survived well (can't remember what species). heating wasn't required as car and motels were warm enough.
  7. children should be encouraged at meetings. If they misbehave, drop them in the tank.
  8. It all depends on what sort of tank and lid you have and how much space there is for lighting. My lights are in a reflector and just sit on top of the glass lid (that stops water splashing the electrics, and fish leaping out), under the wooden lid that covers all.
  9. Guppies are able to deal with lower temperatures than most tropical fishes, as are some barbs (like rosys, golden etc) and other fish. They are fine in "cold" water if the temperature is not less than 18C. The average well insulated house in many parts of NZ would not get below this, hence the term "coldwater" means "in a well insulated house in a warm part of the country so you do not require a heaterstat" 8)
  10. Since it is MY thread then I am right and the only others who are also right are those who agree with me. (and Jude - she can be right whenever she likes )
  11. Old pantyhose are good to put peat in (as long as nobody is wearing them at the time). Choose a natural peat that has no additives. You can buy the sponges or use filter wool. I also like to put extra ceramic noodles in mine under the foam.
  12. All right, I've had enough. I am so upset I am leaving the country!!!! Tee hee, Grant and I are off to Brunei next week :bounce: I gather our hotel has free Net access so I will be able to keep an eye on you from there.

    Yay... New Post

2 tubs outside. One for waterlogging large driftwood and the other for breeding critters for fishfood. Oh, plus half a mussel float for daphnia.
  14. Yeah I know but not everyone reads all the threads so this way he knows it will be seen by the majority
  15. It would be preferable to put it in just the club section and maybe freshwater and saltwater too.
  16. Give the guy a break (not that he deserves one) as he did say she was his better half. Hi fishy_lips and welcome. Your input will be appreciated.
  17. Don't forget to change my name in the middle of the blurb at the bottom too! I missed it first time
  18.        Oh dear oh dear and all so off topic!!!
  19. I assume the finished article will be emailed to me for the Aquarium World?
  20. Posters have been sent to Jammos to add relevant information before printing. All systems GO! :bounce:
  21. I never took any notice of how old mine were when they started to breed. They can be odd in that they may not breed for years then suddenly start to do so non stop until they stop again as suddenly, and mysteriously, as they began. They are not too territorial and you will not have a problem with several males in one tank. Of course, if you're wanting to breed them you will need females
