  1. They are known to refuse to eat when things are new. Someone who actually has them could tell you more but I believe a couple of weeks is not unheard of.
  2. The electric yellows and blues will interbreed and give you really revolting coloured fry - sick puce.
  3. It is a male. Sometimes they do not develop their sword, especially if the are not the dominant male. Sometimes they are platies.
  4. Try a few gentle whacks on it. Sounds like there may be trapped air. They can gurgle a bit for a while when first set up until the trapped air escapes.
  5. If the heaterstat in the tank is unable to keep up with the chill of the room (which is what I am assuming the problem is) I suggest you pack polystyrene around the tank.
  6. Looking forward to the pics and, if we have to criticise, we do it in a constructive way The rest of the fish ought to be fine. A lot depends on the size of the tank (dimensions, not total litres), amount of filtration and degree of maintenance.
  7. 1. Yes 2. Depends on how long they have been in the tank. Here is an excellent site: http://www.clownloach.info/ As you can see, if you check out the link, you are going to need a bigger tank. It is good you have put a lot of thought into individual hiding areas. A bit hard to recommend improvements without a pic of the set-up but as your plec grows (and outgrows the tank) it will destroy the plants (so will the clowns). The rummy noses should be looking good. I love a big school of those fish 8)
  8. fishboi said you can buy barley straw extract.
  9. I've got them except mine are round at the top
  10. Wow long time no see Mark. How are you and your tanks? White substrate never stays white. You should use dark substrate as your fish will show their colours better.

Hi and welcome Brittany. We need to know how exactly you set up the tank, what sort of filter it has, how long it has been running, and what sort and how many fish do you have? I suspect you went and bought the tank, filled it with water, plugged in the equipment and then added a whole pile of fish. Am I right? If so, they are dying from ammonia poisoning. Before going into more detail we need to know if we are on the right track (saves a lot of typing if we aren't )
  12. Then don't put them in a snow globe I think it is only international flights.
  13. Don't tell 'em My sister and niece transported over 30 cichlids in 2 chiller bags carried as hand luggage from here to Hamilton with no problems. They didn't say they had fish and weren't asked.
  14. Tell her you need to go so we can follow you home Come to think of it, that might put her off
  15. and here's me thinkin' it was Irish cannabis

  18. Looking good. What is the plant?
  19. Happy Birthday Fay. If you think your day sucked, think how the poor fish felt
  20. That's what happens when you live in a small backward area In Blenheim we can ring and ask for pick-up.
  21. There are thousands of them. Catching them is the tricky bit. The water is clear as mud and the mollies are very zippy.
