  1. Welcome. The key to successfully getting a tank up and running is in your own post - "Will be building things up slowly". Think about what sort of look you want. Do you want lots of live plants or a rocks-only look? Do you want a good number of small fish darting about or a few larger ones cruising by? Are you thinking tropical or cold water? Freshwater or marine? Read up on how to cycle a tank before you start buying anything. By "cycle" we mean building up the good bacteria in your filtration system so they will neutralise the bad stuff that will grow in an enclosed system, like your aquarium. Ask all the questions you like. As said, we aren't trying to sell you anything! Whereabouts are you? If you go the User Control Panel you can add your location to your profile. There is possibly someone near you, or an active fish club, who can help you start your journey into fish keeping by offering hands-on help, or some established media from their filter to help your tank cycle. Don't forget to use the search function as you may find many answers in previous posts as someone will have asked the same things!
  2. Those angels look like they are plotting a take-over or something
  3. Very little damage at their house, thank goodness. A lot of water out of the tanks again but nothing major broken this time. They borrowed a friend's car to get home. No idea when they can get theirs (or what condition it is in) from the car park building i town. I hear the Copthorne Hotel has collapsed with many trapped inside It was severely damaged last time I think. If there is anything any of us can do for those of you affected, even if it is accommodation away from shaky ground!, just ask.
  4. Heard from Gareth. He and Dena are "OK" but he said there are dead bodies in the street and they can't get their vehicle out of the car park building so a friend is going to try and get them home I gather there is plenty on TV1 and TV3 but I am at work so can't see it all. Don't know where to go on the internet to see live stuff.
  5. A man on national radio said the church opposide the radio building had collapsed but I don't know where their building is :-? Worried about Gareth and Dena too.He will have been evacuated as he works in the family court building. Because it is shallower and closer to the city they are saying the damage is worse than the first quake

    Eggs

I like eggs, but not that much. I then got sidetracked listening to the equally dreadful (but luckily very short) waffle song, carrot song, potato song and something else that I can no longer remember thank goodness! :-?
  7. You wouldn't like jellyfish then Joe  When we were on Lantau Island we had a lovely pasta dish which we thought had mushrooms in it - until we bit into one and wondered why it was rather rubbery and tasted fishy (and then realised it also had little tentacles)  Should be someone in chat around 7.30 tonight.
  8. Pawesome Pets is OK but many pets don't have paws so people may think you only sell cats and dogs :-?
  9. It is readily available on the side of the road in many places down here but suspect landscapers would be your best bet up there.
  10. Good on the two of you. I hope the money will be used to help finance your attendance at conference

    Fay's Reef Tank

How do you drag yourself away from it?? I love the cabinet too. So many wooden ones have a high lid that, to me, overwhelms the actual tank.
  12. I suspect the quake may have shaken loose stuff in the pipes or something and this affected the water quality for a time.
  13. Been there listened (and downloaded) to that thank you :bounce: 8)
  14. I have only seen one or two white butterflies around here and the cicadas seem to be about the usual noise level. Not seen any skinks either but I suspect that is a northern thing 8)
  15. It's been years since I read that. I think I still have the books here though. My first of the fantasy genre were the David Eddings Belgariad and Malloreon series. Terry Goodkind is now on my list next time I go to the library. Perhaps he will add to my favourite Terrys - Brooks and Pratchett
  16. I got bored with the TV series but will try the books. My preferred media anyway
  17. Arrange a get-together then advertise it locally in malls, supermarkets, any bulletin boards you can find, lfs, schools etc. Got a local freebie paper? Ring them and ask them to do an article about you wanting to start a fish club.
  18. Meeting tonight, 7.30pm Stoke Hall. A BBC Planet Earth film is being shown. All welcome.
