  1. That took a long time, that was a bad reaction you had. Did you get rid of all the surface plants in the end?

I'm saying that it's filter sponge of various grades that you can get there. I don't know what exactly the german stuff is but if he's not fussy about exact specifics or brand there should be some choices there.
  3. Perspex is definitely easier to work with but I have to beg and scrape to get cheap/free of that.... I could disassemble my current tanks to make the glass partitions planned so far. I do have some good plastic mesh - stuff for fine tapestry that I stole from Livingart's haberdashery box - it's currently in use blocking fish with my perspex dividers, only the fry can get around the sides hence why I want to make a permanent block. anyway you've given me some good ideas to be going on with

You can get all sorts of sponge grades cut to size and width at Para Rubber up here.
  8. I'm interested in the fact that Sweetysmum has found a vet that is trying to help with fish.... most unusual ( :smot: )
  9. I think the drill bit we have is about 5mm but might buy another of suitable suggested size as I have a feeling I used that on jade and blunted it. At present my perspex dividers have about 15-20 holes of about that size spaced over about 20cm area so that's what I was aiming for but it doesn't necessarily have to be done the same. Maybe 3 or 4 bigger holes or such like. What do you think?
  10. As I said, it's a small breeding tank (see link in my signature) and not much room or inclination for that kind of thing as it is. I just want to try some java fern and see if it lives for a start. And there won't be much 'maintaining' going on, a mere weighting down the roots and letting them be.
  11. thanks Mark and done under running water slowly as suggested above?
  12. I don't know cold water fish much but it looks like when a fish bumps into something and dislodges a scale. Those sort of things usually heal over a few days or weeks themselves in my experience, unless it's a particulary sickly fish and you will soon know about it if so. nice photo too
  13. In your other thread you said if you made one it would turn out crappy. You are a fibber  :slfg:
  14. Rosco how did you get on with this? I am looking into making a breeding tank with glass dividers fully siliconed in on 3 sides with holes in the middle of the pane for water flow. I want to do it that way rather than leave gaps in the silicone for water flow holes so I can cover them with mesh to block all fish but still have the water flow. My husband has a glass drill bit but he isn't sure how many holes can be drilled or how close together before the pane cracks. Has anyone else done this?
