  1. i knew that wouldn't be far behind
  2. cute little ducklings. I'm amazed at the different colours all in the same group. 2nd photo shows a parent duck. I think they're Scaup.
  3. wow your "Black whiptails" are a lot darker than mine (also from p Collis) I don't have a fantastic camera, but here's my guy (am sure it's male) for comparison.

    How to dubstep

haha that's cool. My tiels need to learn that .. sons being playing dubstep non stop
  7. they're awesome! Is the first one more green or blue? If you have any offspring that colour let me know!
  8. thanks reevsta. do you have a photo of yours so I can compare . Where does his stripe start.. at the eye or on the snout? I keep coming back to "he must be a peacock" but when I saw this guy at HFF I asked them to fish out the peacock eel for me.. and they said.. he isn't a peacock. I've looked at several sites and some do look like him while others have different striping pattern. One site said there were two types of peacock.. one has stripes and one has spots .. I'm confused. My one only has two spots.. not the usual 4-5 but he does has very definite striping. Well I've decided to call him a "Striped Peacock Eel" when people ask what he is (which people tend to do)
  9. wow, it's amazing you got it back. Fantastic!
  10. as alanmin has said, they are unwanted organism in NZ and if you have some you must get rid of them (not release though). Nasty fish anyway and would probably have a go at your goldfish and most certainly eat the eggs. .
  11. congrats and enjoy! Samsung and Sony are my favourite TVs. Someone once told me they were technology partners. We have a samsung 40" too but a couple of years old now. With the surround sound it's awesome! The Bravia we bought was actually for the parents , they needed help to get the right Tv at the right price. We just added a soundbar to theirs to improve the sound quality. Have you got yours hooked up to some sounds for DVDs and gaming?
  12. I like facebook and it's a great way to share photos/events/stories with overseas family and friends. Like a more personlised interactive forum haha. I wanted to look up all my old high school friends and facebook was awesome for reconnecting. "oldfriends" site just didn't cut it. Now we're organising a reunion - fantastic! My teens use facebook and as a parent it's a very interesting look into their world! The biggest issue is security and you've just got to keep on top of it, make sure all your settings are how you want them, (eg friends only) and be on the watch for facebook scams and hoaxes. I regularly check http://www.facecrooks.com/ if something looks suss and I have a regular cleanout of applications that haven't been used in over 6 months.
  13. just bargain! do you have "the good guys" down there?. We just got a Sony Bravia 40" Full HD LCD TV (KDL40EX400) for under $1,000 just by asking.
  14. I've got a couple more pics which might help ID him, otherwise I think I'll just go for peacock variant I can't get over how friendly and tame he is. my daughter hand feeds him and he will happily sit in her hand.
  15. thanks for the opinions. Both those look neat but I'm hoping he's more like the peacock than the aral because peacocks are half the size!! Will be interesting watching him grow and see if his markings intensify. He seems a lot fatter/bulkier in the body than the half banded we had.
  16. thanks Melanie my girl is really happy and checks on him all the time. This morning he ate bloodworms from her hand and isn't shy at all. :bounce:
  17. I've posted a picture in a new thread to see if I can get help in identifying whether he's a peacock or something else. BTW his name is "Maple Squiggly" and I'll post better pictures once I get some. viewtopic.php?f=32&t=49988
  18. OK, it's not the best photo but here is my fat little baby spiney eel. At first glance I thought he was a peacock but HFF say they haven't seen ones like this before with both the stripes and spots. They think he is something new yet when I googled I did find peacocks that look like this guy. Anyone recognise the species? The yellow striped and ringed spots are actually more pronounced than what has shown up int the photo but you get the idea. Could he be a peacock cross?
  19. up until two days ago the two ducks were visiting every day and turning over the 4 eggs but then abandoned them each night. they haven't been back since Friday and I suspect they have another nest across the road in the reserve.. where a nest should be! I'll remove the eggs from our lawns in a day or so... the eels in the ponds will love them I'm sure!
  20. I will certainly post a pic once he is out and about and happy in his new home. Right now he just has his head poking out from under the driftwood. poor guy has had to have two new environment changes this week.
  21. wow a new tank . Congrats. Your santa is great! We are off to HFF this morning to finally get another spiney eel. My girl has been so patient waiting for new ones to come in. On her eel tank she has a picture of an eel with a message of "coming soon..." ..update .. just got back and we have our spiney eel. He is really pretty. HFF haven't seen one like this before, he has yellow stripes plus yellow ringed spots. At first glance he looks like a peacock, but it's something new. There are 4 more in the tank if anyone else is interested. very nice eels!
  22. i have two dwarf gouramis and every evening after they go through this little ritual... they start slapping each other with their tails. They are side by side, but opposite directions (head /tail) It's so funny. Don't know what it's about . But they have never hurt the other. The rest of the time they just swim around not bothering each other or anyone.
  23. i think I've ended up with 2 affinis and 1 vittatus. The vittatus does not hang with the other two so I need to try and find another like him. But I have discovered they all love silverbeet!! that's when all 3 will stay together, on a piece of silverbeet for days .. I wait for them to leave it so i can remove it but they don't want to leave the silverbeet leaf, continuing to munch holes and shred it. ! I always thought they would only eat algae but they seem to love silverbeet and will also graze on pumpkin. The tank is not short on algae either haha. With the silverbeet and pumpkin I very lightly cook it .. minimal.. just to soften up ever so slightly before I put it in. 30 seconds in a shallow dish of water in the microwave does the trick for 1/2 leaf of silverbeet or a small piece of sliced pumpkin. My whiptail will also hang around while the gourami and guppies peck at it too . Choc zebra and fighter don't seem interested.
