  1. grrr it's frustrating knowing I should be getting faster speeds and I'm not. I'm in a ADSL2+ area and VDSL2 is scheduled for feb 2011 - what exactly is VDSL2 and will I need to do anything to take advantage of it?
  2. well my boys do tend to wait till it's late to get a good connection for black ops. (xbox360 game)
  3. thanks for your advice.. but I really don't know what I'm doing! The modem is connected directly into the wall socket with no extensions. and no filter as there is no phone in the same room. It used to run through the surge protector first but on the advice of a TC person I ran it straight to the wall socket now. I have no sky and a serviceman isolated my alarm from the phone line since it's not monitored and stuck some thing on the outside line that comes in, saying it would improve my line somehow.
  4. that's a big difference sam .. I will test mine again... and..... ..... it's even worse!!
  5. yes the wirless is enabled because we have a number of iPod touches in the house but the PC runs direct off the router.
  6. thanks Phantom, first link worked is this what I need:
  7. I have no idea where to find those modem stats.. ! this is my modem: http://www.dynalink.co.nz/products/adsl/rta1025we
  8. this has really put me off buying from the BB. I know sick fish can end up in any stores.. but it's how they deal with it that worries me. The last few visits to the BB I have seen sick and dieing fish , and I've come away and not bought a thing. I wonder if they've changed their way of doing things or their suppliers.. they used to have really healthy looking fish. ... or maybe it's just a bad run and they need to get on top.
  9. pAthetic!!! how come other telstra users are getting way better speeds than me? .. and Sam is not that far from me either! supossedly I have good line quality so i don't know why I'm not getting better speeds. grade A - an excellent result! Expect all Internet applications to work very well assuming you have sufficient bandwidth.
  10. if they are young platy they might not have big broods anyway. After a week, what's left won't tend to get eaten by the parents you can sell them on TM or give them away. It takes a while before they will be ready to breed. Perhaps you might need a 2nd tank for fry and then keep it as a QT tank (Quarantine tank) for sick fish and new fish. I keep a very basic splish splash tank for that.
  11. i use new life spectrum too and it's awesome. I use the Hikari for all my bottom feeders and NLS for everything else. (except the eel)
  12. if it's columnaris I was told to lower the temp to 24oC (or less if fish can handle) to make it harder for the columnaris to thrive.
  13. they are doing really well now.. eating and much less shy and interested in what's going on. one has a blobby spot and one has a nice round spot. Time will tell if they are boys or girls.
  14. welcome Rob nice to have you here. What species of fish do you like?
  15. here are my two wagtail platy. the female is the broader in the first photo and the one at the front in the 2nd photo.
  16. if you get young females you might be ok. personally I like the body shape of the females better and would choose females over males but that comes down to preference. You could always sell off / give away fry until the females stopped producing - would take 1 -3 months max. The young females don't tend to have huge broods either. The babies are really very cute - cuter than guppy babies.
  17. Hi Will and welcome! You don't want too many fish in a 22L. I would stick to platys or neons but not both until you get a bigger tank.. which will probably happen if you stay around here too long!
  18. water ager/conditioner is perfectly fine - and advisable. It's the additives that adjust the ph etc that should be avoided "pH proper" "ph Up" , and "pH down" etc.. You don't want to mess around with pH by using chemicals or you'll forever be chasing your tail.
  19. why not just use clove oil first so they're asleep - then freezing /shock freezing wouldn't be so bad. If you don't have vodka , it could be a way to do it.
  20. definitely! but you might buy more than you intended!
  21. oh joy one likes pellets and the other likes flakes.
  22. I've not had neons before so can't comment on whether they'd be ok with a SFF , but i vaguely remember that they might be fin nippers and bettas (SFF) are slow with long flowy fins. Maybe someone else can confirm that. How much current is in your tank?, they do prefer a slower current but plants and hdiey places can help offset it. But some even like playing in the filter outlet - mine did. I kept my male betta with platy and a whiptail without problems. Me female betta is in the community tank with all sorts.
  23. maybe they were whiptails or twig catfish?
  24. clove oil method is quick and easy and from what I understand is the most humane on the fish (They go to sleep first).
  25. let us know how you get on and keep an eye out for the annual animates aqua days (later in the year) -- they have awesome specials on testkits which are always handy to have.
