  1. i usually just add a little salt to my quarantine tank and watch for any signs of illness unless it's a livebearer and then I'll worm it.
  2. thanks everyone. I think I'll go for a sennheiser with 3M length. Have been happy with sennheiser earbuds in the past so hopefully the headphones will be good too. Seem to have good reviews.
  3. hmmm, I think I might leave it. I don't want to be locked in for 3 years.
  4. the above mercury prices would add around $23-$30 to my monthly bill. Powershop sounds good but when it first came out wasn't greatly rated by consumer. Since then it seems to have only got better. But I prefer to have gas and power all on one bill. Does powershop mean having to constantly be reviewing the prices?
  5. I got an email form mercury offering to fix the prices for three years. To accept their offer , it would mean for us an increase on the unit charge from 24.33 cents to 26.66 cents per kWh (excl gst) and it would remain at that price for 3 years. What do you think? Is the energy market about to become more competitive or is this a good deal?
  6. we just had our own backyard version at a friends place. was good. We go to the waikaraka park speedway when they have their fireworks night - that is awesome! cars and fireworks and noise!
  7. it does seem to have slightly improved.
  8. well she is still here and has delivered some fry. The reddish tinge has decreased but the blobby thing is still hanging out. She's eating and swimming normally.
  9. update: she's still alive this evening and looks like shes had a few fry but that blobby thing is still there.
  10. thanks for the advice.. I did buy skullcandy for the teen .. but these will be for the hubby when he plays xbox at night.
  11. looking for a pair of headphones (over the head/padded) with a decent cord length on them. at least 3m+ from the headphones to jackpoint. preferably under $100. Any brand/model suggestions? Online shopping sites never seem to show the cord length. yep .. starting to get organised for Christmas... hate being rushed in December and I don't like busy malls!
  12. My biggest female guppy ( she's a big import girl) is /was ready to drop her fry but she has a big fleshy blob hanging out her birth canal. It's too big to be a stuck fry and most if not all her babies seem to be still inside. There was one fry int eh tank this morning , it might be hers buts I suspect it's from another fish. She has had the blob since yesterday. What is it and is there anything I can do. She looks very uncomfortable and I think it's starting to poison her or injure her as there is a slight reddish tinge inside and just behind it now. I hope I don't lose her, she's a very nice big girl.
  13. wow .. I am ABSOLUTELY 100% positive I saw them for sale in toyshop.. an educational /nature/ science toyshop to be exact. They were in a box similar to the one pictured and sitting right next to the seamonkeys in a shop at Sylvia Park. I'll have to have another look next time I go by.
  14. ahh but they do cause a noise.. something like "WAIT MUM - I'm Doing my Hair!" we have two sets of straighteners, one for the girl and one for the boy.
  15. he has two electric guitars and a practice amp.. NO DRUMS.. NO BASS.. NO decent AMP.. and he's not getting any of those either lol!
  16. that would be good. He said something about Mt Eden dubstep. I just thought a compilation CD would be a god way to go for now. Are any of those albums any good... I can post the tracklist if you like.
  17. lol.. yep he went from this: to this but he's wanted snakebites for two years, has always had "interesting" hair and has been listening to dubstep all year. He's still growing out the back as it's too short for his liking
  18. 16 year old wants it for Christmas.. I was looking at "This is Dubstep Volume 3" and "The sound of dubstep" but wouldn't have a clue about any of the artists. All I know that is when he listens to it online, it feels like my brain is going to melt! haha-- better ripped onto an iPod I think!
  19. good question! Haven't actually tested that out! I know the stove still fires up, just have to use a match instead of the primer.
  20. what about a battery powered air pump placed in the filter? (well not the whole pimp, just the end bit) would that be enough to keep oxygenated? As for heat loss, I'm fortunately on gas heated water so I can always change water if it gets to cold. I recently did come home to find power cut to my smallest tank and the water had dropped 9oC. I warmed it up slowly and added some extra TLC bacteria to the filter.
  21. I feed decaps brine shrimp eggs and the fry really love them (as do all the fish) and it helps them grow nice and big. When they're older they also crushed flakes and new life as soon as they can manage it.
  22. that sounds encouraging guys. I will make sure to get a small one so he can grow with the others. I saw some nice dark bodied ones out west auck a few weekends ago, and will also check out HFF. Sometimes they look grey but I like the darker ones! Pity the redtails are are more aggressive.
  23. I've always wanted a rainbow shark for my tank but have been very patient and waited so he could be the last addition and to give my Choc zebra and little whiptail some growing time first. I'm just about ready to go looking for a young shark but I was at animates the other day and they told me "no" I can't put a shark with a plec. I know a lot depends on the individual fish but when I asked last time, some people said yes , some just said be careful. I would hate for the shark to go and start owning the tank and scaring the choc zebra into hiding or hurt my whiptai for that matter. I'm having second thoughts - what are peoples opinions. There are three pieces of driftwood, a cave and a tunnel and plants in a 170L tank. The tunnel was bought with the shark in mind but my zebbie likes to go in there sometimes too.
