  1. that's a bit better. I wonder if there are any with smaller graduations.
  2. that's good. what are the graduations like? I have a pondcare "wide range" but the graduations are too broad so I only use it if I need to check pH that's over 7.4. My tanks are usually around 6.8 -7.2 pondcare color card goes... 5.0 > 6.0 > 6.5 > 7.0 > 7.5 > 8.0 > 9.0
  3. I can't see anything that looks quite like our black whiptails.. which one is it supposed to be or most closely resembles from the links above?
  4. I was going to ask you what you are feeding yours .. how much and how often. Our striped peacock will eat frozen bloodworms (Thawed) and preferably handfed. He will also eat live guppy fry if my daughter catches them and holds them by the tail in front of him! We've got a guppy trio in his tank to keep him fed on fry but not sure if he or the pearl gourami are eating the fry. As they are always gone by the end of the first day/night. Otherwise it's just the bloodworms.. 1/2 cube every 2nd day .. not sure if this is enough??? (possibly supplemented by guppy fry 1-2 times a month) He won't eat any of the dried foods we feed the other fish. he comes out to inspect but turns his nose up at it. Soon as your hand is in the tank though he's twirling around the fingers hoping for a bloodworm morsel. We will increase the amount as he gets bigger but is 1/2 cube enough for now? He doesn't seem skinny.
  5. yes - heaps of cicadas in Auckland. My cats are having great fun
  6. my room temp gets up to 29/30 during the day so I place desk fans towards the tanks. Thankfully at night the HRV kicks in.
  7. i don't think stress coat will deal with the nitrates, Prime is quite expensive but you use such a tiny amount that i think it works out more economical in the long run as a water conditioner. Does the same as stress coat plus it also detoxifies nitrite and nitrates
  8. wow.. if plants don't help you could always use PRIME which detoxifys nitrate until you figure out what is going on.
  9. ok then.. here is Maple Squigley , our young striped peacock eel. (Our = me and Jaimee) . I think he is about 10cm
  10. How many fish do you have, is it a new tank? I've heard that salt will help with fish who are struggling with nitrite levels. here's an article on nitrite poisoning.. http://freshaquarium.about.com/cs/disea ... poison.htm so I would say, add some salt and keep up the water changes.
  11. I'll put up a picture of our little striped peacock soon - just didn't think he was exciting enough for the "eel keepers"
  12. that's very sad. what are dragon scales?
  13. yeah .. it was pretty much like that. But doesn't matter now as it's all been done on gmail. Does anyone know how useful the ICDL (International computer driver license) is in the real world?
  14. thanks stella .. will set one up I think. Just went back into hotmail (lets us log in but not send) and set a security question..but the password reset page asks a completely different question!!!!!
  15. might give gmail a go if I can't get this re solved.. I didn't realise anyone could use gmail, I thought you had to be invited. Anyway I cocntacted live support and they eventually got back to me and said we had to reset the password... but when we tried that it went round and round in circles .. kept ending back up on the first page where it asks for security question (which hasn't been set up yet) or "support" .. which sends to a page to provide an alternate email.. which then goes back to the first page..agggggggghhhh
  16. this is strange. My son just set up a new hotmail address because he's doing computers at school and his teacher requires an email that is different to the parents. The school then keeps both parties up to date with progress for ICDL (computer drivers license lol) which is in addition to the L2 NCEA content. He needs to send the teacher an email from his own address with his tutor class and subject code. SO anyway, he composes the message to his teacher and hits send ...... but then got the following error messages.. * Error: "We've noticed some unusual activity in your Hotmail account" * Error: "Your message seems to have triggered our junk e-mail filters" * Error: "Your account has been temporarily blocked" the original message is sitting in drafts now, unsent. then we're supposed to verify by giving them a mobile no.. which it wouldn't recognise.. so now what? Why on earth did it get blocked in the first place. I find this rather strange and frustrating.
  17. really? well one of my otos is at least a year and a half now and he is no where near that size! I've never seen them that big so it must be an anomaly
  18. once your tank has cycled and stable.. you could for some otos (Otocinclus) maybe a small group of 3-5. Cute little fellows that are awesome at cleaning up the algae. Mine also eat algae wafers , sinking tabs , veges and whatever else is goign - though I was told they only eat algae.
  19. I'll never forget the backyard explosion my son made.. couldn't believe what mentos and a diet coke can do!!!
  20. Flood is fussy.. he won't eat anything I've offered him so far - except bloodworms.. Have tried NLS small pellets, tropical flake, shrimp flakes.. ignores it all. Is it ok for a betta to only eat bloodworms?
  21. this is an old thread We ended up putting pearl gourami in that tank with the eel and guppys.
