  1. Sure I have! Opinions and constructive feedback are good for developing and making sure the final layout the best it can be. I like 3 too, thanks for the feedback guys. Any reasons why you choose the 'scape you did?
  2. You mean WHEN we go critter hunting 8) Thanks for the feedback Godly3vil, any changes you'd suggest?

    River rock

Not exactly South Auckland but Stone and Water World in Mt Eden has an excellent selection, about 10mins off the motorway and heaps to choose from.
  4. Is the maestro on holiday?
  5. Especially with that cool little cave part under it I bought this rock and 6 others for $5.68 ($0.40/kg) so I reckon it weighs about 10kgs, it really needs to be seen to be truly appreciated.
  6. Picked up some rocks and substrate from Stone and Water World today. The substrate is red coffee grit and the rocks are "moss rocks". Here's a few potential 'scapes I was playing around with, let me know what you think. 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. The photos don't show the immense depth and detail of the large rock sadly, 'scape 6. is just to see what it's like without the large rock.

    mosquito help.

If they're in the water, you're talking about mosquito larvae, not mosquitoes. You feed as much as you normally would, I feed max 5 per fish per day.
  8. Here's a sneak peak at my up and coming project, a cold water iwagumi aquarium. In the context of an aquascape, the term "iwagumi" simply refers to using only rocks as hardscape material and only low growing plants in the scape. My project is to create an iwagumi style aquarium using rocks, hairgrass and moss. Fauna will be white cloud mountain minnows and shrimp. The aquarium measures 60x30x30cm and has custom lids to fit the filter pipes. I created the hanging light hood myself and it contains two CFL fittings, the filter is an Eheim 2213, pressurized CO2 will be used with an inline diffuser and substrate will be sand on top of aquabasis. Wish me luck!

    Project AA

The tank got a much needed tidy up today, I'll let the photos do the talking. Before: After: 6 remaining Embers Moss rocks for new tank. Apologise for the poor quality photos, rushed them a bit and the computer's playing up so I can't really be bothered redoing them.

I ended up added more plants :-?

Doing a bit of a clean out of my AA tank
  12. I didn't know Bettas were fought in NZL
  13. I know the stuff you're talking about by perhaps a photo with an object or your hand behind it would show it more clearly?
  14. I used to frequent theplantedtank.net and aquascapingworld but hardly have time for those now. ASW isn't huge but is largely international and highly specialised. TPT.net is large and some good info is shared.
  15. Nature gives it a good crack but sadly our society puts the idiots in hospital
  16. Ditch the dragon stone, aside from perhaps supporting the slope, it doesn't add anything to the final product. In fact, it will be covered by plants and leave less floor space for plants.
  17. But it doesn't work these days. Back in the days of standard aquarium sizes and T12 tubes, yes it worked. But there are just too many different lighting choices and unusual tank sizes to even consider the above formula. I can guarantee you'll get more LSI out of a 200w halide than you will from 2x 100w incandescent bulbs.
  18. Not sure what point you're making but the fact of the matter is that watts per volume is not a valid formula for the amount of light in an aquarium. Person A with a 60cm long x 30cm high & wide (54L) tank may do well with two 20W CFL bulbs, however person A has no right to tell person B that the same two bulbs on their 30 long x 30 wide x 60 high (54L) tank will have the same results. There will be less than half the light at the bottom of tank B among other factors, CO2, nutrients, etc. Instead of using watts per gallon or litre, one must look at lighting on a case by case basis. Hope this clears things up
  19. Watts =/= light and litres=/=depth, the WPL theory is bust.
  20. This is probably the biggest pain installing canisters on tanks with plastic hoods. Making clean cuts in plastic is crazy difficult so I'd run it through an existing hole even if it means a little extra plumbing.

    The What's Up? thread.

I hope you like wind, hills and hipsters P44
