Really Si? That's contradictory to everything I've heard. Even if that is the case, surely saturating the water with CO2 so the plants can use it asap is a good idea isn't it?

When my plants die off, I cut off any dead or dying plants and usually that encourages new growth. I find that when I move Java fern, unless the leaves are still growing and not "settled", they tend to die off in a new aquarium.

I decided I would try and make light my limiting factor, not CO2. I can always drop the CO2 down a bit if it's too strong for the lights but with 2x CFLs and no CO2 I can see algae in my future :roll:

Bought myself another CO2 regulator, check valves, bubble counter and inline diffuser. Merry Xmas Sam! :happy1:

Another question. Should I be using a heater just to keep the tank stable at around 20°C or are room temperature fluctuations fine?

Mine seems to mostly affect locally bred and raised platies and guppies only, same symptoms as have been listed; scales fallen off (usually one large patch only) then they get skinny, inactive for a 12-48hrs then die. Anything from month old to 6 month old fish, some get it, some don't but those which lose scales will die.

If the stand is 1000 tall and the tank is 700 high (correct me if I'm wrong) planting should be okay provided you have long arms. Most of it will have to be done from inside the tank before it's filled.

Oh yeah, I forgot the disclaimer :oops: That'll still be cheaper than replacing the unit, the issue is almost always the starter.
