  1. Well he's fine today, I just don't understand this wee fish :-?
  2. I didn't lift out the filter when cleaning the gravel but if it's a cycling problem because I've made it too clean, then syphoning water from another tank and adding it to his tank should do the trick At any rate, he does seem to have perked up a bit today and is swimming around a bit - maybe it was some fungal or bacteria problem and the tonic dealt to it? I'll keep an eye on him and if he relapses will try syphoning water from another tank.
  3. Anyone else noticed their angels nibbling at plants? I find they're worse than my silver dollars! I didn't know they were known to be plant eaters - or is this a cichlid thing?
  4. It's an undergravel filter with an oxygen stone. I use a small pump as the tank is small - about 40 litres
  5. I cleaned out the tanks the day before Xmas and he's now sick - clamped fins sitting at the bottom of the tank. I've done 2 water changes and added tonic and tonic salt but he's still not well - he is still eating though. I did add new plants to his tank (as well as the community tank) when I made the water change and removed dead plants and drift wood at the same time - are there any plants that can be toxic to bettas I don't know about as the same plants in the community tank are fine. I'm thinking about giving him to a new home as this is twice he's been sick and I haven't had him long - maybe he's just not happy with me
  6. It hasn't spread yeahboy, in fact - it's healing up nicely. Now has skin/scales growing over the wound and is becoming a nice silver colour again
  7. Mine don't seem to be fighting aggressively and have settled down a bit too so I think they'll be fine
  8. Great news they were just hiding Caryl :bounce: I love your pond
  9. Submerged.....very pretty Now....how to go about getting some more smilies....

    Fin Damage

a little bit, but not the lovely long flowing tail of before - it's about half the length it was.

    Fin Damage

So he'll now have short fins and tail? Oh no!
  12. so it's common to use products for humans on animals - since when?

    Fin Damage

How long does this take? My VT boy developed fin and tail rot and his fin/tail are still stumpy yet he's perfectly healthy now - this was at the end of October.

    a bit puzzled!

Angels are particularly good at this, they swim towards you as you approach the tank and follow you if you move around it - easy to think they are begging for food.
  15. I don't feed mine any particular food - they eat what the other fish eat (flake, crisps, frozen bloodwords, brine shrimp, cucumber etc. - what ever floats down to the bottom of the tank), though occasionally I'll feed them sinking pellets or algae pellets (if the silver dollars don't get them first  ) I see all 6 of my khulies at feeding time which is anytime between 5pm and 8pm
  16. Haha, kitties! Mine would be sitting on the paper as I'm trying to cut it
  17. Why was the kitten bathed and dosed in talc? what an idiotic thing to do
  18. I'm looking for some blue tree lights but can't find any. Warehouse have a strand on tinsel but it's not long enough - anyone know where I can get some?
  19. Apparently is right - doesn't mean it will be hot enough over Summer to remove the heaters - I didn't last year. Too many bricks and not enough room for the fish.
  20. Great pics DJ :bounce: I've decorated my tanks too! I'll try to post some pics this weekend
  21. The half covered one leaf hasn't got any worse - it's still like that. Let's hope the plant recovers.
  22. lol, that's not very helpful. but the scab has completely come off and it's pinky fleshy underneath - I'll keep an eye on it but it hasn't got any worse, so will assume it's heater burn.
  23. Well the fungus or scab is now peeling off, so assume it's a scab from heater burn?
  24. Could be a heater burn - the fish tend to just hover around a lot, not moving and slot themselves alongside objects. Or, could be fungus, no scales there at all so that's why I thought maybe it is fungus. I'll keep an eye on him and see if how it goes. I find my dollars get all sorts of marks and lumps on them, but then they go away.
  25. Ok so, that's it? My javas are dead, no chance of them springing back?
