  1. A BN yes, but not a mouth that size - she's only about 6cm I think. I've never seen her attach herself to a fish and am surprised if the Dollar would allow it
  2. Came home from work to find this mark on him: He seems ok at the moment but should I be concerned - almost looks like mould in appearance
  3. Or get plants that can grow on logs - then you can take the whole log out when gravel cleaning
  4. Melted? No water flow around it, but I have another java fern doing very well in another tank and there's no water flow around that either (unless fish swimming by creates enough flow for it). I've had the plant for 3 weeks I think? Could be more - it was fine until recently. The only changes are that I added two javas that had become sick from meds added to another tank (as well as other plants in that tank) so fished them out and put them into this tank - the other plants (non java ones) are growing back since being moved to this tank, the java is not (they're still a mess) but they're not in contact with this one.
  5. Yep As you'll note in the pic, only two healthy leaves left.
  6. No, it's attached to a log.
  7. No, it had offshoots growing - but this fungus is covered all over the leaves and they're dying. It doesn't look like black beard, maybe the leaves are dying and going moldy? In which case, what could be causing it?
  8. My java fern has developed fungus - at least I think that's what it is, it's going brown and hairy. None of the other plants in the tank are affected and are all growing well. What can I do to erradicate this if it is fungus?
  9. I poured a jug of water into outlet pipe so any air should be forced out inlet pipe and switched filter back on again - it seems to have worked as pressure is so much better :bounce: I removed oxygen stone (goodbye noisy air pump) and am running the tank with the outlet trickling over the top of the water level, hopefully that's enough movement to generate enough oxygen in the tank. Thanks for your help everyone!
  10. For starters, set him up in his own tank, he clearly wants some peace and quiet while he's unwell. Ensure he has some hiding places in this set up too. Without pics, it's hard to say - could be a parasite or fungus, you could try tonic and/or tonic salt and see how he responds.
  11. Are you sure you haven't misplaced them? Who would take old Christmas decorations when they're so cheap to buy? I remember we were always hunting for the Christmas decorations every year
  12. I've tried that - didn't work. I have the filter sitting oh the ground with tank on a cabinet. I tried removing outlet hose and had it in a bucket on the floor but it didn't help. So, remove the top of filter and swish it around a bit to get air out? but if top if off, there won't be a vacuum seal so it will be filled with air :-?
  13. I think it's fair to say that all Christmas coloured fish count as being festive I've never decorated my tanks before - but as I now have 3 (1 large tank and two smaller ones, when I used to have 1 medium sized tank) with hood lights, I think they'd look quite grand with tinsel draped around them - so would glitter when tank lights are turned on
  14. Yes! There is air - I do see a lot of air bubbles. How do I prime it please? I fill it up by suctioning so the water flows through and fills the filter up - how do I keep the air out?
  15. I'm so glad I left Xtra - goodbye spam!
  16. Does anyone deck their fish tanks out for Christmas? Cover it in tinsel or lights or add Christmas themed ornaments to the tank?
  17. It's not the media or hoses - they have been cleaned. Maybe it is the impeller? But it goes well for a few seconds from siphoning for the first time to slowing up immediately (the outflow anyway) - it comes out with a rush then recedes back to half flow.
  18. If he's had a few courses of Furan2, it's probably best not to dose him again - I had problems with my fish - tried all sorts and the full course of furan2 finally fixed him up. If your fish is skittish - ensure he's on his own, has plenty of hiding places and kept in a tank that's not brightly lit. Maybe dose his tank with some stress coat and/or tonic salt for stress and then see how he goes - good luck
  19. I'm curious to know what you put in your pepper grinder that your bettas love. I have a fussy betta who seems to only eat frozen food - i.e. not flake. I have tried bettamin but he's not fussed with that either. I feed mine a variety of (but not all each feeding): frozen brine shrimp, frozen blood worms, frozen tropical tucker, flakes, dried tubiflex worms, crisps, pellets (though none seem to like it), wafers, cucumber and lettuce. I want to try live food and will buy a culture of microworms. I have tried throwing insects from the garden into the tank but the fish ignore them. I feed my fish once a day. It's really interesting to see the range of feedings for everyone. Actually, one fish shop told me it's the number one cause of sick fish that come in to them - people simply don't feed them enough, or don't feed enough at feeding times.
  20. OK, let's get past the bubble wall..... if I have it's usual outlet in place, the flow is still sucky - there's not enough flow to oxygenate the water, so I need an air stone as well. The outflow is a trickle compared to how it used to be when I first got it - what would cause this?
  21. I can't get my filter to get a good outflow - I have attached a new bubble wall to it, it bubbled really well for all of 5 seconds when I first set up the filter (after cleaning it out) and now not a single bubble - not sure where the outflow water is going if no bubble in sight. Maybe it's just not strong enough to generate any bubbles. I've had enough of this filter - can someone please come to my place (Upper Hutt/Lower Hutt areas) and show me what I'm doing wrong. I have to use an oxygen stone to ensure the fish get enough oxygen in the tank as the outflow is so pathetic
  22. How big (or small) are these bottles?
