    Sexing panda corys

I know females are bigger than males but they all look the same size :-? Sorry Cam, can't help you there - but will definitely be keen to buy some when you've successfully bred them

    Green water......

How green is the water? Green so you can't see anything in the tank or green tinged? I had green tinged water and I found the only way to get rid of it (and keep it from happening again) was more regular water changes.
  3. I like your thinking Lesta - some people treat dogs as backyard accessories. I don't have a dog for the same reason - just not enough time in my day to give it the attention it needs. Whereas cats....well, they just do as they please and suit themselves so that's another story

    Fighter front fins

One of my male fighter's developed fin and tail rot - I managed to sort that out but they never seemed to grow back. I was assured they would but 2 months later they were still short - so no idea :-? fins and tails should always grow back though - even if it takes quite some time.

    Glass Angels

Which lfs? Hutt City Pets? Might do down and have a lookie :bounce:
  6. Thanks for the help and information everyone I bought 4 baby platties last night and they're in the tank with no filtration and no air flow and have survived their first night :bounce: It's strange seeing them in there with nothing moving around except them but if it works, I'm all for it
  7. I've got that - the Angels nibble it though - their nibbling is destroying my plants
  8. Are you sure Alan? Don't they require some sort of air flow? Otherwise it will just be a heater and plants and that's it. I'm picking up some fish tomorrow night and I'm really worried they'll fall over as soon as their in
  9. Why would I want to cycle again later? Once it's cycled, it's good to go. I only want a couple of fish in there, I don't want to fill it up - it's only a small tank. Which internal filter do you recommend that's absolutely silent?
  10. It's a risk to put new fish in straight away to a newly cycled tank. I'd rather ensure the tank was cycled properly first before adding them. Thanks for all your help everyone
  11. OK, how do I run the tank fishless without filtration? At the mo, it's just substrate, plants and water (water from another tank) - no heater as yet, or is the heater required for the cycling process?
  12. That wouldn't be me, would it? I would like some info - I've tried googling but most sites say to use existing filter, media etc.etc. from other tanks. But my question is how to cycle a tank when everything in it is new.
  13. Probably some killies - but I'm not sure about cycling when everything is new - how should I do it?
  14. Sorry, should have said: " @ Stella's comment" ....or were you serious about that? OK, I'll give this a go but I'm not sure how to cycle the tank properly - the substrate is new, the filter (now no longer needed) is new, I have used mostly water from another tank so not sure how to cycle it properly before introducing fish anyway.
  15. OK, I understand to do small water changes each week to clean out muck, but what about oxygen? Isn't some sort of air flow required to keep the water oxygenated? @ Stella
  16. I don't think it really matters what type of fish I have because even without a filter, I need some sort of air flow - so there's always going to be an apparatus that will be noisy in the tank.
  17. Yes, the filter is run by an air pump but there's no high/low settings that I can see for it - bugger! What's more, I would still hear it - I'm one of those that needs dead silence to sleep. Maybe I should just move the tank out and be done with it, but not sure where to put it, I'm limited for spaces in my place.
  18. Yes, it's the noise that bothers me - can't sleep with constant bubbling  What internal filter do you recommend? @ Barrie, could be killies - but was thinking of something else Although killies may not need filtration, they would require oxygen still, which needs something to power it - or how would that work? I've never set up a tank without filtration before so wouldn't know where to start....
  19. I have 180 litre tank which has: 2 silver dollars 2 golden angels 1 female bristlenose 4 cories 6 khuli loaches I could possilby add more but that's enough - I like my fish to have room to move so that's my limit
  20. So are you saying it will be ok or not? :-? I'm using a sponge filter and there will be only 2 small fish in a 40 litre tank.
  21. @ Chilli - even fixed cats (both male and female) spray. I had a female who was speyed and she sprayed outside. My neutered male sprays also - so getting them fixed doesn't necessary cure the problem either. I think it's generally down to their personality as to whether they do or not as not all cats spray, but more likely to if they aren't fixed.
  22. *Makes note to never invite Stu to my place*
  23. I'm considering getting a couple of small fish to put in a 40 litre tank to have in my room. The filter is noisy so will need to turn it off at night so I can sleep - to turn on again in the morning. Will there be enough oxygen in the tank for the fish while the filter is off overnight?
  24. Yes, and it seems they can be broken when it suits. But that's not the point - how can Olijoi have told the story without offending or breaking rules?
  25. That is absolutely amazing!
