  1. Buy one anyway - save the poor little bettas! :bounce:
  2. I nearly got a few of each type but was talked in to getting just khulis - I have to say the stripes are more striking and they look better against the grey sand.
  3. What is a nano tank? I often hear them mentioned here - are you able to post a pic please?
  4. I recently set up a new tank with new substrate (also silica sand) old ornamants and an old filter which hadn't been used for a few months - used most of the water from previous tank (which filled up about a third), added fresh water, threw the fish straight in and bob's your uncle. I don't believe in mucking around with cycling and such and never had a problem. So long as you use previous water from a tank as a base, you're fine
  5. Fighters are naturally agressives towards other fish - you're lucky it hasn't attacked any of your guppies before this. In saying that though, I have my boy in with 2x silver dollars, 2x angels, 4 cories and khulis and yep - he may be a wee boy but he's ruling the roost My concern is moreso that the angels will attack the fighter's fins, but so far they've left him alone - will keep an eye on things though.
  6. Excellent! I've just purchased some khulis and have sand substrate - can't wait to see this
  7. Mine is a DIY job - it's a halogen hood light - the type that line the ceiling. It has an eheim attachment to it and am not sure what that's for - will find out soon though I hope. The light bulb is pink too which doesn't make it so bright in the tank, I like that but not sure if that's the ideal colour for the plants.
  8. Sorry to hear that Dave+Amy
  9. Huh? :-? Been there done that - I broke my tank and had to purchase an overpriced emergency tank on Trade Me - poor fish were stuck in a small tank until I could get a decent-sized one. Took me a week for the dehumifier to clean up the water on the carpet (damn it happening in the middle of Winter) - now using carpet cleaner to hoover up the stain - seems to be working. The old tank is going to become my vege greenhouse/terrarium this Summer - going to plant them today
  10. Thanks everyone - but did you click on the pic and see the enlargement of it? He's actually a hell of a mess - poor wee guy. But yes, I'm thrilled he's pulled through - can't imagine what he went through but he must be a tough wee cookie. He gave chase to Dweeb earlier too Yeh_buddy, sorry about Handsome sacrificing his comfort yet again for Fluffy - I'll have him in his own set up tomorrow and will send you pics, I promise
  11. Had a closer look at him and looks like his face is scarred - have managed to take a half-decent pic and it looks like his left eye has sunken in, not sure if he's blind on that side now. The white spot on the top is a hole in his head which has now scarred too - I think this is as good as he's going to get. Still no idea what it was but at least he's ok - have put him back in his former tank with Dweeb. Moved Handsome out and put him in guppy breeder into big tank as I had a problem with a heater. I had planned to set Fluffy up in his own tank and leave Handsome where he was but a broken heater when I was changing tanks over meant an emergency arrangement until I can purchase another heater tomorrow. Fluffy is flaring away at god knows what in one spot of the tank and I notice he can't move his damaged gill out very well. Anyway, will keep a close eye on him this weekend and will get Handsome all set up tomorrow
  12. Don't get me started on that! I've had it for 2 weeks and am finally getting over it ! I'm new to live foods - I have green aphids on my roses, can I scoop them off and chuck them in the tank for the silver dollars and angels? Do fighters like them too? :-?

You can say that again  I had one male who tried to leave the tank....twice. Both times he was discovered in time luckily! But if there's a gap in the tank lid - they find it and out the hop. Great fish though - the male always "attacked" me whenever I put him hand/arm into the tank - I'm sure he couldn't have mistaken me for food....but I'd certainly get a fright each time - little rascal. They're neat fish with great personalities
  14. I'll post pics of my tanks/fish this weekend - not sure where though, probably in my Welcome thread? :-?

    Hi Everyone :)

Hi Caper I'll post some pics of Fluffy and Handsome (in their new set ups) this weekend Seeing as every other newbie is posting what fish they have, I thought I'd join the party 2x silver dollars 2x golden angels 1x bronze cory 3x peppered cories 1x pleco 2x male Siamese Fighters (both veiltails) 1x deformed golden angel
  16. The hand basin and toilet ones are silly - no-one spends much time in either room so you'd never see the fish much at all. the apple mac one was silly - a cube with fish. the wall one is not new - I'd like a wall aquarium one day. The labyrinth was also interesting. Thanks for the link spider - interesting ideas for tanks.
  17. I'll try to get some pics of the lorrikeets when they are about and post them for you
  18. As I said, blardy IT people that get away with anything at work
  19. Just saw this thread @ Whetu - it's called a feeding ring. I used them for my goldfish but my tropicals don't understand it - well I tried and they sniffed around, grabbed the odd worm that poked through but that was it - what type of fish do you have? I hand-feed my fish frozen food, so I hold the cube and they bite from it - less mess, besides - I refuse to do daily water changes
  20. I just recently purchased an ipod classic and have just found out that the buttons are actually a wheel The instructions never said anything about that, how was I to know?!
  21. Oh dear - that doesn't sound good Did you manage to treat your fish in time if this is your diasnosis?
  22. We have Rainbow Lorrikeets wild here - very pretty birds to see flitting about. I haven't seen any yet (usual Spring birds are about: tuis, wood pigeons etc.) but not the Lorrikeets yet - might be too cold for them still. Welcome Mel (insert waving smilie here) You're well set up with loads of tanks (where do you put them all??!!)
