    Sick Angel

Furan2 - full course (all 8 capsules) - will nail everything. Remove fish from community tank to treat him first though.
  2. Could be gill disease - poor water quality is a cause of this, as are fungal infections and parasites. Remove him from community tank (especially if he's terrified of everything in there) and try a full course (all 8 capsules) of furan2 - that's what finally fixed my fish with ongoing spots and such that were a bugger to get rid of. At least with furan2, you'll be targetting every possible ailment. Ensure you do regular water changes between doses as directed on the packet. good luck!
  3. Very cute - I want one! :bounce:
  4. Bah! change that - the bars are back in place  At least I can still access this site
  5. the Lion Man and his mother were recently in the news fighting over the park
  6. Aw, so sorry to hear your remaining pictus also died I remember those lovely fish when I collected Handsome - they were real stunners. Sounds like you've still got some lovely fish with you - especially all of those fighters! Yah, fighters are quite hardy and don't mind a salt bath. Fluffy is loads better - he swims a bit now and is eating well Good luck in your move! :bounce:
  7. Hi ya Buddy Sorry to hear about your catfish - how is it doing today? Wet Pets are great - when I lived in the Palmy area they nursed my sick goldfish back to health - no charge either. Yes, the water there is crapola, I lived in Foxton so the water was even worse - my water was often so acidic that PH tested yellow! Luckily I had goldfish at the time which are a lot hardier than tropicals (I'm since finding out). I would buy water from Wet Pets for my tank when I lived there - it cost $1 for 20 litres at the time, you may consider doing the same and taking some with you to Wanganui, just in case Incidentally, fighters can handle salt - often fighter owners actually salt their water - plus I used it for my two when they were sick and it helped in their recovery. You'll be pleased to know that Handsome has made a full recovery from Ich (although he is not 100% as handsome as before as he developed fin and tail rot throughout the ordeal - but his fins and tail are growing back, albeit slowly). None of the other fish in the community tank he was in ever developed ich though, but I did treat it just in case. Fluffy's hole in the head white fungus thing has also completely gone, due to a complete course (all 8 capsules) of Furan 2 - I'll be making the final water change to his tank tomorrow. Keep us posted on how your pictus is doing :bounce:
  8. If a completely new tank set up and you don't have another tank handy to source fish-ready water from, try purchasing some water from the shop you bought the fish from - even if only enough to fill a 1/3 of it.
  9. Thanks for all the advice people - I know what my next step will be so we'll just leave it there

    The King is dead

I see you edited your first post
  11. I shall zay zis only one more time so pay attention: I have green water, which means an algae bloom from too much light - which means..... gee whiz - TOO MUCH LIGHT!
  12. Well, I don't know about borrowing fish - I'd hate if anything happened to them. I dont' want too many fish in my tank either - so if I buy a couple more and the two original angels continue with their "kissing" then it would have all been for nought
  13. The tanks are in well-lit rooms so get plenty of natural sunlight, which I would have thought would be better than unnatural halogen lights. I also made enquiries about how much unnatural light the plants would require before I bought them, and was told 2-3 hours per day would be fine. I now have green water from too much light apparently - so figure that one out. As it is, I'm home late (often 8pm) so the lights don't go on until then and then off again when I go to bed. On days I'm home early (5pmish) the lights are on for longer. I don't believe in leaving lights on all night in fishtanks - it's not natural and fighters, which prefer brackish, darkish waters, wouldn't appreciate it.
  14. That's what they do, the leaves die and float away. I purchased them from a member of this site, I don't recall what they are - one of them is Indian fern - that seems to be doing well in my fighter's tank, possibly because it's near the heater? The fighter's tank is about 40 litres and has a 9W double bulb, the colour is red (good for plants apparently) but I also have white. I planted some baby plants on a log but they all died. Also another long plant which seems ok so far, the odd leaf has died though. The community tank is the worry, the water went green due to too much nutritian (whatever that means) and not enough plants. Some plants were floating but looked very scody and another is a floater - like a mossy grass, that I tie down to cover stones - that's still ok but lots of it is all over the floor of the tank now. That tank has a pink/red bulb and I turn my tank lights on the evening for a few hours (up to 3 hours maybe). Admittedly the dollars ate most of the plants, but they still looked crap even before the dollars got at them and it didn't take long for the water to turn green. I tried plants years ago, and the same thing happened then - water turned green, plants dying - gave up then and maybe I should give up now, would really like a planted tank though.
  15. I have an Ehiem Classic and I find the outflow just isn't strong enough to oxygenate the water enough, so I have an oxygen stone in the tank as well. I've never tried a Fluvall but will buy that next time I think.
  16. Whenever I see loads in one tank, they aren't all constantly at each other - thought it might bring balance somehow. Oh well, just hope they don't cause any major injuries to each other.
  17. So, what am I doing wrong? I plant them, add plant food, and light - so why do the leaves go dark and float off and the plants become scody?
  18. I really need to know about this kissing thing - would introduce more angels stop them constantly going at it? I'm worried one may hurt the other :-?
  19. I like the table manners of your plecs Firenz What do you use to anchor the cucumber? I throw bits in and my pleco hops on board and rides the waves while he eats, lol. Unfortunately for him, the silver dollars like cucumber too.
  20. Got a think for red and white fighters, haven't you? Gorgeous fish Buddy!

    Ich

I do handfeed my fish. I handfeed blood worms and brine shrimp and any other frozen food - makes it less messy in the tank too With Fluffy, I would hold the cube in the water above him so the food would drift down and land on his head - he'd only eat one or two pieces though. I tried putting my hand right in down beside him but it spooked him a bit - will persevere though. As for Handsome, he's doing really well

    USB Aquariums

    Yep, just terrible!
  23. So long as you're using the right sort of salt Brookey - table salt won't do. Use tonic salt which is especially for fish. I've tried everything for my fish - he's currently undergoing a furan treatment - the whole course this time. If this doesn't work, I'm out of ideas. Try tonic - an all over treatment, see how that goes - good luck!
