  1. can you post a link to a larger pic?
  2. human genetics are a different ball game. natural dwarfs would be fish food. just like natural albinos.
  3. and here the can of worms open  ok. so you can technically get them. but those that have them are rightfully secretive about owning them because the world is not a rosy place filled with puppies and kitten and other such cuddly stuff and people are inclined to steal them etc etc etc... it doesn't help that they can no longer be imported into NZ. there are a lot of recent posts covering this topic, try searching for them... as of now there are only a handful in the country - and not many people know where they are. they cost an absolute bomb though, look at paying a fair few k for a single specimen. That is if you can find one. and if you do find one let us know where you get it from... Im sure at least 95% of the people on here, from NZ will be keen on the info
  4. I think he is a little cuckoo personally. I haven't seen a dwarf oscar. Ever. I suppose it is possible if it was a GMO. But then it wouldn't be allowed here any how. I think you should ask him to get some any ways. I'd love to have some in my tank.
  5. I found this as I was doing some reading online. It is sourced from www.aquariumfacory.com. How to kill your fish: 1. Overfeed: Feed much and often. 2. Spray and aerosol. Insect sprays, hairspray and window cleaner etc. 3. Overcrowd: Keep stacking them in. 4. Poor filtration: What does it matter if the water is cloudy and grey? 5. Use 'el cheapo' fish foods: Usually crushed dog biscuit type. 6. Give them a total water change: Especially if they are in very old water or warm water at the moment. 7. Use water from new copper pipes: If the chlorine doesn't get them, this will. 8. Use water from new galvanized tanks: Just in case they have survived everything else. 9. Use fibreglass filter wool: Give them silicosis of the gills. 10. Medicate, medicate, medicate: Use some blue stuff, some yellow stuff ... 11. Bang the glass when passing: Can't have them lazy and tranquil. 12. Do not quarantine: This gives your old fish an unfair fighting chance. Let them have some new germs to make life interesting. In short, if they get sick, see Point 10. Some Special Points for Tropicals 1. Put your big fish with little fish: Make the bigger fish bigger. 2. Let the temperature go up, up, up or down, down, down: They won't know whether they are coming or going. 3. Don't worry about the pH or acid level: Let 'em burn a little. 4. Ignore the ammonia and nitrite level: It's far too technical and they probably died of something else anyway. Taken from Cichlid Monthly, Volume 14, Number 8.
  6. here's a nice link that relates to clowns and keeping them well. http://www.aquariumfactory.com.au/clownfish.htm
  7. they are truly beautiful!
  8. lucky lucky. no one ive ever dated liked fish as much as I did  Welcome to the forums! I'm sure you will learn heaps from here if your partner hasn't already taught you heaps :bounce:
  9. snail rid contains copper sulfate, so be careful when you use it.. I'm not sure if it would work on snail eggs either. Im sure i have a bottle lying around ill see what the instructions say.
  10. oh no that's terrible what sort of bricks were they? i know the concrete ones cause the pH of water to go up. It sucks when this sort of thing happens..
  11. 10 bucks this album sells more than the last one cause it doesn't have her face on it.
  12. No. it is not. Moron was a word that means stupid. often associated with mental retardation. and it used to be a medical term (mums a child psychologist). it is the context we now use that term with that has negative connotations, it is no worse than calling someone silly or stupid.
  13. oh look i gave you 5 stars! that is awesome. so it opens at night/ evening and closes during the day. if that's so make sure nothing ruins its photoperiod. it is such an awesome flower!!!
  14. I'm hoping Mystic, that we will not need any tasers, or weapons of mass destruction
  15. treat them in a bucket that you aren't fond off. if you treat it in your tank it will turn the silicone brown. PS- your fingers will turn brown too - but that will fade in a few days. maybe more than a few days if you aren't nice and brown.
  16. whoa. people calm dowN! hold those horses! Matt you provide beer - i have good old rum and vodka. beer tastes gross  now we can all be nice and civil here.. before zev brings out the infamous stick
  17. aquabasis is prob. the best of the options. but if you really wanted, just push a jbl fert ball in the gravel for the crypts. the sag will be fine without the jbl, but by the looks of it, it is still in its emersed form...i could be wrong. but all of mine went through the change to be submersed, and the leaves are a beautiful dark green and it grows upto 50 cm or so if given the right lighting. if you want good growth in that tank, consider DIY CO2, the sag should pick up well. HTH
  18. i dont like linux cause i wouldnt understand it. i think i will have to settle with win xp 64
  19. oh wow... that's really cool. wish you the best of luck trying to breed them when you can. very cool looking fish.
  20. uber cool! lol. thanks for that... i thought it only worked on snails.
  21. oh that's real cooL! what are you planning on breeding? fancy plecos maybe?
  22. does KMnO4 work on snail eggs too?
