  1. its like a wee little engine.
  2. i think the tank looks great as is. I'd leave it too. but if you have already bought the excel and leafzone - underdose the excel, and use the plantzone as is directed on the bottle. i think it should be along the lines of 5ml for 37.5L or something like that.
  3. the quote thing does that occasionally when you quote someone who has quoted someone else  I read it, and I was like, wait... "that doesnt sound like a phrase i would use"  oh well haha.
  4. :bounce: lol yeah... i got girl flowers too. i think i read a post in an old thread and you had explained how to tell the sexes apart. i read that and waited for the flowers  I only got to know about microfolia when you told me about it a couple of months ago. I always thought subulata would stay small - but then you can see how its grown in my tank, and that threw that theory out the door, lol... I think my tank needs a prune, but i love my plants (often more so than my fish) and I dont know how to properly prune my tank, without ruining it and uprooting the whole thing.
  5. that's a pretty big markup if they get them for 2 bucks... more than the usual. (you're selling it to them a lot cheaper than the wholesalers Mystic!) but considering there are other overheads to be considered - its only a wee bit more expensive than I would have thought.
  6. A quick update on how things are looking. The results are amazing! :bounce: D&A's crypts: Tiger lotus: Sag Subuluta: Looks can be deceiving: sag flower: Its a jungle out there:
  7. It wasn't me that said that matt,
  8. oh no... you should post more! you have awesome some awesome plecos!!! :bounce: (and you know so much about them!) i used to know someone who had a few zebras and she just said it was not worth all the heartache to let other people know that she has them. she used to get calls from strangers who wanted to see them, breeders offering her money for them. rude remarks from people when she said they were not for sale etc... etc. quite sad really... its the same reason i suppose people that have not so common reptiles like tortoises etc. keep it low key. not worth taking the risk, and there are some pretty sad people out there that resort to stealing stuff and pressure tactics. very sad really. I do agree.
  9. indian fern will be perfect for that.i like many on here use it for canopy cover.
  10. they were inbred out of desperation and it got to the point where even the weak were bred and that ruined many strains.now i believe there are 3-4 good strains left in the country. Some of the weak ones couldn't even handle water changes, they stayed thin, cranial cavities were visible.wouldn't fatten up. Although there are no survivorsthat( bred to my knowledge of the original fish) that we could buy for $150 a while ago. Sorry for typing errors, have used phone to type this
  11. not imported and are banned i think. over mining caused their natural populations to become endangered, or close to it.
  12. people that have them know others that have them. its like a little secret society.
  13. there are a couple here and there.
  14. shops tend to be horribly expensive for tiger lotus. i got 2 little ones off a member from here. seems to be your best bet.. see if someone wants to sell some. it gets tall, really tall but the stalks are thin and weak, so they do not poke out of the water. leaves are round and broad, so are v beautiful.
  15. tiger lotus gets a flower too. there is a fantastic thread about it in the plants section. look at me selling you the plant  but no, really its an awesome plant. grows incredibly fast - i have a new leaf or 2 every day.
  16. indian fern. its really good stuff, and grows well. so when you get more than you need, just remove the fully formed extra plants. tiger lotus is good as the leaves form a canopy - but this is not a floating plant.
  17. yeah.. what he said, ha ha. have a good trip caryl!
  18. I see. That's awesome. hows the flower looking today?
  19. wow! that is one awesome looking guppy! i want it!
  20. diatoms biologically speaking are a unicellular primitive life form, and in this case are a phytoplankton (plant algae). ottos are a fish that eat this stuff  so basically you have a type of algae that an otto / ottocynclus (spelling??) will eat.

    Hi All

welcome! :bounce: Im sure you will enjoy yourself on this site. Mark's link to powertoys is the easiest way of resizing your pics to the right size. that way its faster to upload it to photobucket too.
  22. you might be joking simon but i am not. caryl - just get the bulb and vacuum pack a few of them (a couple dozen will do). no one will be the wiser
  23. A town, hows your 4 stripe cl doing? did you manage to find any more? brooklands has some really nice CL's at the moment, but out of 2 batches of 25+ each, not even one has 4 stripes.
  24. I just noticed all the leaves on your tiger lotus are green. mine have lots and lots of red dots and speckes on them. is it the same plant?
