  1. have a rum and coke with lime instead! waaaayyy better!
  2. the red streaks are usually associated with high and elevated levels of ammonia. Id suggest doing water changes to get rid of that ammonia slowly. Now for the pH buffer. A buffer is a solution that resists pH change (v.simply put without getting into advanced chem). So basically if your water has good buffering qualities - it will resist that pH change that the fish do not like. sometimes pH change kills fish, and not the pH the fish are in. eg. if your fish are water with pH 0f 5 and are happy; and then you do a pH test and panic, do a complete wc and then raise the pH to 7 and your fish die... this means your fish havent died because the pH was low when you tested it.. but actually because the change to pH 7 was brought about drastically. I'd recommend some oystershells (in the birdsecton of your local pet shop) - they raise the pH slowly and slightly - and help with those vital buffers.
  3. i think its sad that it wasn't released too such a magnificent creature deserves the ocean as its home. beer tastes gross, lol ewww..
  4. I too have been guilty of many of the above. /
  5. no so easy to get females in the shops.
  6. too late. you sad it now. hahahaha. can't take it back. ______ a dwarf gourami is a small gourami. they are peaceful community fish. the cobalt blue ones and the flames are my favourites.
  7. Are you calling aaron smelly?
  8. come on tell us!!!!!!!  :bounce: :bounce:
  9. holymoly mother of all old posts batman  blue, red, brown, red and blue, blue and red, silver.
  10. re: sustainability of this tank for currrent inhabitants - while these tankscan be used for marine aquaria - they certainly cannot sustain corals and yellow tail damsels. the lighting is well... pathetic, lol.. compared to what is actually needed. i would not be a happy clown fish if i were having to make do with a fake coral or a yellow tail damsel, as a tank mate who wants nothing more than to jump out the tank cause all it does is swim in circles.
  11. I cant wait either, lol... plan is to get rid of the plants first, so i can catch the current inhabitants, and find thousands of baby steel blues, lol.... then sell the fish, and then the gravel.. then empty out the tank... get the coral, shove it in the filter, re fill the tank with new water. get the substrate and rock positioning perfect... cycle the tank - wait, add 24 dems. then see if i can add e.yellows. any other bright yellow fish? i like red zebras too, but they may not go well with dems (as in not look right.. if you know what i mean). I mainly only want 2 species of swimmy fish + plecos. Id get rid of the clowns too but im too attached to them. Ryan I will prob have to take you up and come visit some time, and then you can drill me about the dems. I want no nasty surprises, lol...
  12. bacterial bloom... or .. did you clean the new media well before you used the filters? do wc's any how, lol..
  13. o0oO a new post! thanks Ryan. Im hoping on getting every aspect of the tank right, so wouldlike to know everything i can about them. ive read so much online, but nothing beats personal experience! it will probably take a while for me to get rid of everything in my tank. Re- the dominant males. Ive read they can be a problem and its best to have 1 male and a whole lot of females, but this will not be possible if i get smallish ones oh well.. could always trade fish with people if there are too many problems. but im hoping a high number of fish will help with with aggression.
  14. thanks for the pic lauren. I dont want a white substrate either. it shall be natural rock, or juwel rock background. the coral shall be in the filter as i have ample space in the cannister. Im hoping to get slate like in tank 2 in this link http://www.aquahobby.com/tanks/e_tank0801.php I want no plants in the tank at all. itwill be a huge step for me, cause i know how amazing plants are at maintaining mywater quality. and i love plants in the tank. but the tank must be perfect
  15. I have always liked the demasoni, and I've always wanted them. In the past I did not know where to get them from, but now I'm willing to get rid of all my plants, gravel, fish, plants...everything... and make the perfect tank for them. I'm hoping to get a total of 24 of them, and have them either in a species tank; or with a contrasting number of e.yellows or a suitable similar sized, bright yellow african cichlid. I'm so happy to see beautiful fish for sale, locally and across the country; and so I want to make the jump to keeping them. What I need to know is where I can get thin slate like stone from so i can make thin shelf like layers at the back of the tank. I have everything else I need, except for crushed coral which i want to put in one of my 405's. so i need to know where to get that too. The tank is 4 ft long, 1 ft deep and about 1.5ft high - 200L. I'm very excited about this; but I know it will take a while, as I will need to get rid of all my current fish and plants except for my plecos and 4 Clown Loaches whom I cant possibly part with. Any and all advice and suggestions are more than welcome. Thanks!
  16. I still have very high water flow and current in the tank. 2 fluval 405's and a eheim 2010 internal filter that has an air pump attached to it.. Theory was the majority of the CO2 diffused into the water in the pipes and cannister etc...
  17. you will have to reduce surface agitation with CO2 injection. I run my DIY CO2 through my external filter.
  18. oh my god! it takes a lONG time to set up a marine right. I think my old one took 3 months before I even thought of adding fish in it! salt water fish are not for someone who wants to keep fish cause they look cool. its far too technical. I shudder to think that any one would willingly sell salt water fish to someone who just bought a tank!
  19. all sorts. straw, blue, black, boyson (berries) to name a few. Rust likes strawberries the best. oh and corn. they love corn and make a big mess of it. its awesome! :bounce:
  20. wait.. wat? the eggs were white? I dont get it. myrams have alwaqys had pale golden eggs
  21. Quote "HE'S NOT FAT, HE'S JUST FULL OF LOVE!!!!! lol"
  22. I am naturally gifted and am nice and brown  lol... no need to resort to fake tan ha ha. although my hair bleaches when i go to the beach etc. its all very tragic
  23. very nice. the sag.subulata looks v.nice there. it should grow fast as!
  24. There's no point getting oscars, they get too large, too fast they are such awesome fish though! you could get more jewels or a single convict maybe? I like those red zebras too... they should look good in a tank like that.
  25. look at the road code book. that rule makes things a lot safer in some cases, like at the bigger roundabouts in AKL. BUT very few people actually indicate correctly and thats where accidents occur. better to be safe than sorry I say.
