I havent done a lap round the fish shops in Kapiti yet (I used to live there, but my parents are still out there). What ones have closed down and which ones are left?

I know the other day when I ventured into Animates Kaiwharawhara, they had a group of 3 small ones, if you dare to venture into that shop.

I'd feed it babies... yes babies.... the other, other white meat.

As above. All help appreciated. Just weighing up my options as it's hard to find a tank that will fit well on the stand I am using, so I thought I'd get one made perfectly to fit. Any ideas? Chur. Luke

His words were "Theres lots of cichlids, theres also lots of oscars...." or something along those lines, but he mentioned Cichlids and oscars seperately.... Sounds like he was misleading me a little bit...

Yeah I was considering seeing what he could get for me.... I don't know why he would say that if he was unsure - because that could be truely disasterous.

Hi There, Was in a fish shop today looking at some tanks. Got approached by a salesman who seemed like he knew what he was talking about. I got talking about a couple of ideas I have for where to go with my next tank. I was looking at a 160l that was on special. I also mentioned to him that I was going to looking at getting maybe a 6ft tank and getting another pair of oscars and maybe some other large fish seeing as I lost my last pair of oscars and then sold the tank. He advised that the 160l would be fine for a pair of oscars. I mentioned to him, the fact that oscars can grow to about 12" long. He said that I had been misinformed and that there were 30-40 different types of oscars, some small and some big. I advised him that I knew of 2 types of oscar, being Tiger oscar and Albino Tiger Oscar.... He said he could import some smaller varieties of oscar that would be PERFECT in a 160l.... and I must say I'm a tad skeptical, so was looking for a second opinion. Was this guy full of crap? Or am I just really behind in the game since I last bought Oscars? Any help on this would be appreciated. Regards, Luke

I've got danios in a pond outside. They've been there for a few months now - although it was over the summer months... so we will see how they go over winter.

I just got some paradise fish. They've got heaps of character IMO.

had a look in LFS today, and the baby convict they had in there had bits of orange on it? Is it really a convict or is it mislabelled or some kind of hybrid? I'd be keen to get a nice single cichlid in the 100 litre. They had a some sort of light blue cichlid in there too, there was other things in there too. Do Jewel cichlids come in blue? Cos there was a "melanochromis" in there or something, and it was just a baby.. and there was another label on the tank that said "small zebra" so the Blue fish, didnt look very "Zebra like"... so was it a jewel like the label said?

Jeepers. Sorry for the hassle, just chill you lot. It not a tall hex, It's a 2ft long. I'm getting a new filter to suit the tank. Will talk to my petshop boy tomorrow about filtration. Wasn't going to get a big group of convicts. Just wanted a pair or trio even if they were same sex. I'm not interested in breeding them. Said I was going to breed guppies to feed to a bigger fish, nothing about breeding cichlids. I'd rather not have a breeding pair TBH, as breeding fish is a lot of work, and so is trying to get rid of the fry. So maybe not convicts then? I've never owned Angels. What are they like as far as personality goes?
