I kinda think I ruined the tank a little. Then again I think it could work if some plants catch on. Here's a pic. I'm thinking of selling say 100 crypts in total and then seeing how it looks from there on.

Doesn't sound like it came in legally. Sounds like it fell through a crack in the system. Who knows though. Would be cool to have these here, but often plants can be as hazardous as some species of fish and are often harder to eradicate. MAF will get onto it soon enough.

Aren't they found in the Australian deserts? I think if he found that sand killed them in this type of setup, he wouldn't have them living on sand.

The wattage depends on the size of the tubes. A 4ft tube is 54W. The ballasts come in different wattages for the different tubes.

Cool cool. I'll sell stuff off once I sort my foot out. In the mean while I've decided to change a few things around.

A 4ft T5 HO fixture will be adequate. I'd recommend the Hagen / GLO units. More expensive, but definitely worth it, and they have extendible legs so will fit on a 5ft tank snugly.
