  4. http://www.trademe.co.nz/pets-animals/fish/pumps-filters/auction-437623044.htm get a cf1200 even cheaper
  5. if you have seen the white stars then they are probably still alive sounds like they dont like something in your tank for the polyps not to extend they are very hardy corals so id check all your parameters as it does sound like your tank isnt properly cycled
  6. spoon

    inspire me

+1 sps reef its the holy grail of fishkeeping
  7. with a nano and regular water changes using ASW wont be a problem as your regular water changes will be topping up trace elements but very true about cost and equipment if you decide to go nao buy equipment that is overkill for the tank as you will regret buying small stuff later on
  8. the tank at organism dosent come with a skimmer, they are best suited to a cool area in a house or an air conditioned room you will have limited sucess with a fan trying to keep that cool. i agree its not too hard just keeping up with water changes really but you will eventually want something bigger and the cost of running a small marine is quite deceptive also
  9. we are are all good just nerves shot, have a spare 200l cube tank that can be used to house fish temporarily if need be
  10. i seen a 30cmish one at an lfs one day it was in with some large silver dollars and just harrased the crap out of them non stop
  11. the higher your tank the more lighting you will need id stick to 450mm for height especially if you use t5s it will mean you can keep more light demanding corals in the future. some good beginner corals are kenya tree, mushrooms, xenia, green star poylps, leathers, even some lps like torch and hammer corals arent too bad for beginners. with regards to fish some are quite hardy likes clowns , cardinals and damsels also chromis you will have to carefully choose fish if you plan to have shrimps or the shrimps may end up as an expensive meal
  12. the old timers will tell you how well they did(sorry alan :digH: ) but i think it was more a case of balancing light with nutrients and co2
  13. i know talleys use salt water and acetic acidic which is like concentrated vinegar anyway im not sure what else goes in there or how much of each ingredient
  14. i had a pair in a community tank with no problems they didnt eat my guppies either i had lots of plants and rocks in there for hiding spaces
  15. gotta have trifle with so much sherry you can get drunk off it
  16. i found the low density stuff like expol difficult to carve and retain shape but it is a lot cheaper as it uses a lot less raw material than a high density sheet
  17. we had 2 small ones at our old place that came up and ate the cats food and drunk its milk that would explain the mess they left on the deck , i know you arent supposed to feed cats too much cow milk either but this cat wouldnt drink water :dunno:
  18. sometimes they lop a little later on but i have also seen lops at adult stage like that
  19. you would normally build a wooden box then fibreglass the inside the silicone is merely a seal, the weight of the water holds it in place
  20. results speak for them selves the corals wouldnt be open like that if they didnt like the water
  21. looks like xenia to me a lot of nice corals there too ive always called the green frogspawn you have hammer coral but im unsure if thats just another nickname for it i think this one is neon green candycane, its bloody nice under actinic and if you shine a torch on it an hour after the lights go out you will see its feeder tentacles
  22. the carpet was to make it look good and protect the real carpet from any spills
  23. you can get 8mm glass but youre probably better off going for 10mm as the off cuts are bigger and may make it cheaper
  24. good idea i have one of the resuns its pretty useless for anything other than a very small tank. the sunsuns are much quieter and reliable
