  1. plumb it to a pond in summer only
  2. perfectly fine except its a huge heater and will look ugly as its also 500mm long
  3. you wont need to do any dosing the coral rock and coral sand if you use it will keep it sweet as. id be inclined to put the coral rock in a bucket of water with some bleach for a day just to make sure theres no bad stuff left on it that can rot and rinse well (do a few 100% water changes in bucket) you wont need the reactors or carbon sell that stuff and use it to buy some sweet fish. i would look at peacocks electrric yellows theres heaps of options but it would pay to decide on what you want first then check on here for compatability issues before buying
  4. sump will be great someone will no what media just use your old marione bulbs they will make the colours pop in the fish especially peacocks
  5. you could give them a try as close to the light as possible ie high up on rockwork they may survive until you get better lights but is it really worth the risk?
  6. that auction would be much better than what you currently have and would be suitable for quite a few corals i wouldnt bother trying to make do with what you have at the moment the money that you would spend on new marine bulbs would go a long way towards buying a new fitting that may already come with suitable bulbs.
  7. it might have an inlet you can hook your overflow from the main tank into so it moves water around the skimmer . as for the micro bubbles they are normally trapped in the sump by glass dividers called a 'Bubble trap' your lighting will seriously inhibit which types of corals you can keep and how well they will do id look at getting at least t5 units as you only have 2x30w tubes at the moment. i have 36w on a 30l which is low.... also be aware of the ages of the tubes they need to be replaced every 9 months if they are second hand they probably wont be suitable for any coral
  8. hmm that may be a recirculating model that recirculates the water through a pump injecting the air then you either use a seperate pump or gravity from the display tank to feed the water thru it
  9. spoon

    external filter?

i wouldnt bother waste of time and money your live rock is your biological filter use another type of filter for mechanical if not using a skimmer as it will need to be cleaned often and you wont want to pull apart your cannister filter every few days
  10. http://www.potters.co.nz/ dont call it egg crate ass they may not know what you are talking about its actually a lighting reflector theres a pdf catalog here select the size you want then you know what they call it http://www.potters.co.nz/CustomContentRetrieve.aspx?ID=39546
  11. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Astaxanthin this is what you want its the red colour in salmon you can buy it at the health food store in capsules its used to help get a tan
  12. make it so the water level is at the bottom of the collection cup or there abouts the bubbles will start to build a foam and the foam will climb up the collection funnel into the cup even if its an inch below the collection cup dont worry just give it a day or two to bed in and it will work
  13. your fish might grow fast like henwards :digH:
  14. should be sweet then the leds work off a much lower voltage which the driver sorts out for them
  15. still havent made it to work yet cant get my car out it just skids :digH:
  16. midnight last night couldnt help myself rabbits didnt seem to mind the snow

  19. i think you're either into it or you're not there's the fish geeks and then there's the general population who"i had a goldfish once, in a bowl but it died so i got another and it died"
  20. i seen a fish the frame rate was pretty slow for me but still cool
  21. it wont fully dissolve until you want to stir it for hours on end :slfg: just use an old pump or old internal filter with no media it dosent have to be very big
  22. normally get a big bucket and follow instructions might say 1kg for litres so scale it down to the size container you are making it in then tip the salt in (ideally use RODI water) with the water then you agitate it for up to 24hrs i wouldnt do it for any less than 4hrs but 2hrs as a general rule. you can just use a small pump to do this but point it at the bottom to stir up the harder to dissolve bits remaining. you can heat it with a spare aquarium heater if you want (some people dont bother due to bad experiences with heaters in buckets or just that ta bucket of cold water isnt going to change the temp much coz there tank is so big) but be aware using a hydrometer your reading wont be correct until the water is about 24 deg. the purpose of the agitation is to make sure all the salt is completely mixed as some ingredients take a while to dissolve and all time to let the water achieve an ionic balance and acceptable levels of dissolved O2
