  1. i used 15mm pvc pipe and drilled holes in live rock with a hammer drill and a spade bit
  2. i would probably go with a less obscure brand of skimmer . are you looking for an external or an internal type you will need a sump with enough room for an internal type . i have a BM nac6 works fine would reccomend them for a cheap skimmer that actually works Bubble magnus make good external types as well they are quite large which is not a bad thing unless you want to hide it
  3. once you get face book for a while go back have a look at your wall, as someone else would see it and have a think about what the things on there portray you as . you may find you are suprised my friends post all sorts of things to me, so do the apps they and myself use as well as other pages ive liked or joined and to someone looking at my wall it may appear i am some kind of sick degenerate , while im down with that label you may not be!!!
  4. i actually found it in a lfs on the bargains table , it was similar to this except older and made in aussie http://www.ebay.com/itm/Aquarium-57cm-O ... 3a52090885 no doubt a similar fitting would be availible in new zealand they sell plenty of marine bulbs i ran a 50/50 mix type 10k and actinic. i still have the light but its not in great condition
  5. i had a 36w pl tube on a 30l tank did ok

    LED Moonlight

both of them would be way too bright for use as a moonlight i would use something like this in cool white 1w or less http://www.ebay.com/itm/1-SMD-LED-Lamp- ... 3cc928c266

    rodi units

look for one that has replacement parts available in nz , no point buying one off tm or ebay only to find out a year later you cant find replacement filters for it or the one you can find are extremely expensive. a lot dont have di so you will probably be looking at at least a 4 stage filter
  8. i would look at how much you are prepared to spend on lighting , and which type you intend to use as it will more than likely be the limiting factor in terms of coral you can keep. the higher you go the more intense the lighting you need at a guess MH after 60cm or high rockwork and corals placed up high. id be inclined to go 500mm high and 60mm front to back , that would provide a good size tank easy enough to maintain unless you have really short arms then knock 100mm off those :sml1: it would also ensure most comercially made light fittings for a 4ft tank would cover the area of tank
  9. http://www.aquariacentral.com/forums/sh ... uction-log this may give you a few ideas along a slightly different angle perhaps a chiller can be acquired secondhand cheaper but good to see you back

do you mind the tannin stained look? peat in a filter bag will soften your water and reduce ph

  17. thats quite tiny and even on freshwater wouldnt do much on a tank bigger than 50l
  18. i have and a few of my friends still do, use a cheap ebay wave maker(or 'stream" type pump) on cichlid tanks for extra flow and circulation 3000lph to 5000lph should be enough try sunsun jvp 101 or 102

    In-Line Pump

i had a pump inline before a cannister it was in the tank pretty much my intake strainer as well it was to provide extra pressure to pass the water thru a pleated paper pool filter, so the cannister could be only biological media and never need cleaning. it worked well even though the pump was ratted 1800lph and the external was 2700lph
  20. hang it from something with string
  21. i think the amount of gas produced would be so small that it wouldnt be a problem espcially if you use poly with bigger beads as these have been heated more and the gas that forms inside the bead to expand it will mostly be exhausted. any gas released would likely be dissapated very quickly with sufficent water movement
  22. email a model shop like acorn models
