if they go into hibernation with food in there bellies it can rot inside them so probably why they are not eating as they will be slowing down to hibernate, turtles in hibernation can wake up on a warm day and go sun themselves then go back into hibernation!!
PM donnaM for more hibernation details
cool are you going to add more plants ? the halogen lites can be a good source of UV light for frogs just remove the circular disc of glass in front of the bulb .
maybe the kuhlis would be alright with some jewels and lionheads as they dont need high ph but i wouldnt trust them with neons or other small not bottom dwelling fish
i have to agree
i have a fluval and an aqua1 cf1200 and cf 2200 i also have a jebo 819 fluval is good but rather fiddly also very expensive and the jebo is very similar to to the cf1200 but in my opinion not as good less lph and hour and small output hose (maybe to up the head rating who knows)
its also more expensive , try petmart.co.nz they had good new prices last time i looked
i have southern bells ive never had ane problems with them eating fish ive had mountain minnows and goldfish in with them at various stages also axies in a large exo terra tank for ages without problems but i guess its trial and error
hmm so a recent purchase of mine involving a pair of the "convicted type" embarressingly thinking they were from another contiment is not actually so bad if they are getting on well with my other fish
another option instead of using a divider is to use an ice cream container bout 3/4 full of tank water so it just floats in the main tank its ugly but if its only temporary it wont hurt
im building a hood from mdf atm with my limited woodwork skills cheated on the stand though its a steel stand with a new single black sheet around it lol mite do something with it later
i have a r338 that has a similar filter it has holes drilled along the front in a spray bar arrangement until i drilled holes all the way round the bottom edge then stuck a course piece of filter foam over them so it was just resting in the water . result was no loss of lph to the filter but no turbulance (tank was divided for 2 male fighters)
LOL, i was talking about the STAND being black - though its more of a cabinet than stand I guess. Having said that, if you meant sand, I do have black sand for it - i got it from a local landscapers and its crushed limestone.
my ones pretty old not much point having it on round the city but its saved me a few times on longer trips eg chch to mot as cops in the wopwops tend to leave there radar on or they are checking the car in front of you so it picks it up,
a good combination of tubes i have found for cichlid tanks is 1 philips graphica tube and 1 narva industrial blue they are cheap to buy wholesale(compared to lfs) the graphica has a 95% colour rendition index this means it puts out light in 95% of the colours across the spectrum(to see and brighten a colour you need to have that colour in your light) its a bit yellowy on its own but turns into a much whiter light when the narva blue is on
the narva industrial blue is just a general purpose blue t8 tube like you would see on shops around town at nite(not the neon tubes tho)
its not as intense as a marine blue tube(which tends to overly saturate the tank with a purply blue) but it highlights the blues on cichlids really well .
looking at a spectrum graph its similar to a marine blue but shifted more from the uv end into visible blue
uv is not useful for a cichlid tank aneway and its half the price
im using this combination with 2ft tubes atm they cost $15ea i would be looking at closer to 50ea at the lfs for something similar hope this helps
