  1. 100w incandescant should do the trick if its just for some heat
  2. the higher the lights are the better the ripple effect too
  3. why not use a 12v 20w halogen light for the spotlight compact and easy and safer to wire up
  4. that was my inspiration the tank at redwood with the frontosa and peacocks and yep its siliconed in as its very bouyant i was guna make 1 for the middle but i could imagine difficultities trying to catch fish if i had to!
  5. i found out the hard way polyboxes are notwatertight , they will be fine with a few inches of water in them but get a decent amont of water in there and it will push it through the the cracks between the beads the effect on the outside looks like the box is having little tears run down the sides
  6. i like the tank did you diy that yourself? does it have ane form of lighting? i used to like going eeling a few years back but since ive found out more about them from this forum i wouldnt even think about it they take so long to grow i dont see how any fishing of them could be sustainable(im talking bout catching them to eat )

  8. um look in unuasl fish forum part a couple pages back somebody had mudskippers i think one lfs somewhere gets them in from time to time

  10. thats carved polystyrene painted with low v.o.c. acrylic house paint that was sprinkled with coral sand when wet, then once dry siliconed in and now has a nice coat of algae giving it some more colour

  13. nice tank how many gobies do you have? is it brackish ? was wondering with all the plants in there
  14. i got bored with community fish and plants so i got africans now im not bored at all
  15. he stopped doin that later on in the day and just started chasing the yellow all around its settled down now tho which is good i was getting worried there for a while .
  16. the smallest heaters ive seen are elite heaters i got 1 from organism i think it was 50w but a lot smaller than a 25w aquaone heater or a 25w masterpet heater
  17. they do get brittle after a while and go yellow and crack its probably what is wrong with ur one. just get some thin acrylic that you can cut with sisscors it will be a lot cheaper than glass and will last 5 or 6 years the heat wont melt it or anething . the aluminum casing works as a heatsink for the ballast this is why the casing gets warm

    viewtopic.php?f=13&t=36373&start=30 i didnt drill mine just chipped bits off a huge block and cut some grooves in it with an angle grinder but you got me thinking bout finding a hole saw and having a crack at it

    i have oamaru stone in my african tank yes it is soft and easily carved a rotary tool like a dremel would be best but wear a mask as dust will go everywhere
  21. mite find this too gets expensive once you buy enuff bags but you could always add more at a later date
