    Got skimmate?

Here you go, Reef, Pies. My tank as of about 5 minutes ago(In the middle of a water change)
  2. Sounds like they're working properly then. What WATTAGE are they? The how many liter tank it's good for is marketing BS, ignore it, it means absolutely nothing. If the "expensive" heaters aren't able to keep the temp up then they aren't a high enough wattage. As simple as that. They're probably 150 watt while the other ones are 300 or so I'm guessing.
  3. If they're not overheating the water then they're probably on most of the time because you're losing that much heat. Take one out, put it in a big bucket and see where the temp settles or if it does. If the heater is stuck on you'll see in half an hour when the water gets hot. Otherwise it's probably that you're just losing nearly as much heat as the heaters are making. Having a bigger heater or more of them so that they would be turning on and off all the time isn't going to save you any money on power, you're still going to use the same amount.
  4. They don't really release oxygen into the water as far as I know. All they are is a lump of calcium carbonate or similar that raises the PH of the water. If you really want buy a couple more pumps, you can get them for cheap off trademe or buy a splitter and a bunch of airhose if they're close enough and run and airline to each tank.
  5. You should see the blue tetras when they're busy displaying and trying to breed, beautiful glowing blue with red fringes.
  6. My problem is I don't have any books to reference for the species. If someone wouldn't mind finding them for me I can provide pictures of my fish. Let's see... I could get these ones...I think the scientific names are Heros Severus Green and gold Geophagus surinamensis Satanoperca jurupari AKA geophagus jurupari Geophagus Brasiliensis Mystus gulio? Mystus Vitatta? (Not sure exactly on these two. Silver mystus and striped mystus) Aequidens rivulatus Pterygoplichthys gibbiceps Hemichromis bimaculatus So, if someone wants to volunteer to look them up in a book I'll spend this friday scooping and taking pictures.
  7. Why would you want to make them?
  8. The pressures are going to be pretty constant, so the moving isn't going to matter. And anyway, it's not like there's going to be THAT much flexing or expanding of the hoses at the pressures we're dealing with. I say go with whatever's most convenient for your situation. I think I prefer flexible hoses because it gives you some adjustment room for moving bits and pieces. But going around corners may crush a bit, so you could put in some elbows to keep it from narrowing, pbpbptt, Chimera.
  9. I use a spray bar, no trouble with salt creep or the holes clogging. Except for when a bag of carbon leaked all over the sump then I was clearing pieces of activated carbon out of the spray bar holes for a month. I keep the spray bar underwater though.
  10. Find a discus breeder, ask him if you can give him a few bucks for his rejects instead of culling them.
  11. I'd suggest doing a bit more research before buying a berlin.
  12. Hmmm, Looks like it's working properly to me. Maybe a bit clogged, just give the sponges a quick squeeze out in a bucket of tank water and put them back.
  13. Hard to say for sure, since I don't know anything about the filter you're using, but if something's come loose and the water is bypassing the filter and not being filtered that could be the cause. Give it a clean and make sure all the tubes are tight.

    Got skimmate?

I'm not sure how much cutting back I can do. Other than feeding the anemone every other day I only feed about a pinch every other day for the fish, polyps etc. And I can't cut back on feeding the anemone, if I do it'll starve to death. I'm still hoping I'll manage to save it. But we'll see what I can do.

    Got skimmate?

I'll have to take a pic tomorrow. The most recent one I have is over a month old. Haven't tested the nitrates in about 2 weeks, but it was around 10 and I don't have a phosphate test kit.
  16. Life? What's that? I don't need a life I just saved my game...

    Pink lights??

They could just be your usual grolux lights, they're pink. I don't think there's any real reason to use them in a marine tank. They should bring out reds a bit, I suppose.

    Red tail shark

    How old was it though?
  19. Best is to vacuum as much of the gravel as you can every time you do a water change, so every week or so. You do not need to worry about upseting the bacteria, they're stuck to the gravel more than well enough to handle a little bit of current. The only reason you wouldn't want to vac every inch of gravel is it will disturb the roots of any plants, but even then you should vacuum the top layer as often as you can.

    Got skimmate?

I can't tell if they've actually collected anything.
  21. Not really...Talking catfish are cooler than guppies.

    Got skimmate?

The foam has overflowed like that since the day I got it. I've been feeding the tank cyclopeeze for maybe 3 weeks. I either have the collection cup all the way up and the foam doesn't escape but I don't get any skimmate or I have it lower and a bit of foam comes out but I do get some skimmate. Anyway, we'll see what adjusting the air valve does and then I'll try adjusting the collection cup again.
  23. You need to link the lights up to the power switch. So when you turn the TV on you can see the tank.

    Got skimmate?

I don't think the skimmer putting out a pathetic amount is caused by overfeeding. Like I said, that's 2 weeks worth. That's...about 1 cup or less of skimmate. The tank is only getting something like 1/4 tsp of cyclopeeze a week.
