  1. They're controllable...Not like on a wavemaker, but they do have the flow adjustment.
  2. Mine's quiet and never had any trouble starting. Well, if it does make any noise it's drowned out by the rest of the tank's noise.
  3. Eek! Did a round of tests yesterday and they're way off! Been neglecting the testing for way too long, obviously. Calcium around 350 and KH was just under 6 (Don't have the exact numbers, I'm at work) Obviously my putting kalk into the topoff container isn't keeping up. I've mixed up a 2L bottle with some kalk(And magnesium) and been putting that into the tank every 3-4 hours I'll test it tomorrow and see what effect it's had.
  4. What kind of angle fish? 45°? 90°? 180°? It's critical because those different types of angle fish have totally different water and feeding requirements. 90° angle fish are the right type for your tank. 180° are a bit dense and obtuse, but 45° are acute but tend to make a point of attacking other angles. And you definitely don't want to go with anything other than one of those 3 types of angles, they're far too large to fit into a hexagon.
  5. Is the tank ok? (Someone had to say it  )
  6. I don't think it's that big of a deal if they're clear and need cleaned. They're in the overflow, so it's not like he can't simply turn off the return pump, wait for things to settle, drain the water out of the hoses, pull them off and give them a clean. Easy! So, they'll work just fine, just be a little higher maintenance.
  7. Find me a way to properly move around rocks, corals, powerheads, etc without putting your hand in the tank.

Try pointing having one of your powerheads disturbing the surface, that should help. Hmmm, might be able to twist the skimmer intake too so it's drawing from closer to the surface.
  9. Nah, I'm switching to ASW for a while to give it a try. But, I think I'm going to be running about as much water into the tank for the topoff this sumer as I will be for ASW. 6Lish/day vs 7L a day water changes(Call it 100L every other week) that's assuming I don't get slack and do fewer water changes(Which I will.)
  10. Nope. I have a sediment filter and a likely looooong used up DI.
  11. It won't recover totally, but it's nice that it's not totally dead. I mean, it has coralline and vermetid snails growing on it! Duh, camera six inches to my left, coral in question 2 feet to my right...Here's a pic.

55kg ish now...Close enough to 60. But I think about 10kg of that's in my sump and my tank's unfortunately starting to look a bit like the dreaded wall of rock. I got the last batch of base rock for about $7.50 kg, but that's cause I've got connections.
  13. The DI will be used up more SLOWLY if it's after an RO unit because the RO will remove 99%ish of the impurities so far fewer hit the DI. I guess probably would last at least 10 times as long? Guesstimate. Just thought I should comment on that in case Anthony didn't realise you didn't type what you meant.
  14. It was getting me on the tops of my fingers, pretty thin skin there, I guess. Just noticed, I don't know if anyone remembers I had a maze brain that was practically dead and has been for the last 6 months or so, about a month ago I noticed there are actually a few little patches on it alive and a handful of I guess mouths...One of the patches that's maybe half an inch tall by an inch wide is sending out some inch long streamers.
  15. I think I'll avoid getting a fire coral. Not even sure what they look like, actually...Hmmm, Can't seem to find a pic.
  16. Last time it was bristleworms that got me, this time it was my hammer coral! Noone told me hammer corals sting! Picked up 15 KG of base rock today. I think I can safely say I'm fully stocked on rock, tank's about as full up as I want it to be and about 10KG went into the sump.
  17. I think almost everyone here will agree with me that bare bottoms look much nicer, especially if it's a nice BB like, I dunno, Jessica Alba's maybe.
  18. No. Depends on how much flow you want. Downfalls extra expense and holes drilled in the tank. Good things, gets powerheads out of the tank. That's all they're really for is to just get pumps/powerheads out of the tank.

No, sea swirls are not pumps. All they do is turn a nozzle back and forth...$300 for the same mechanism you get in a $10 oscillating fan...

    salt mix

Dose magnets to remove iron, save money on waterchanges...

    salt mix

Looks like I need to buy a trailer and a few 1000L water containers...
  22. Put curtains around the tank...
  23. I've heard that soaking them in vinegar and water for a little while helps. I tried mine in straight vinegar overnight and they turned all floppy and porous. So, maye a 50:50 mix for like 2 hours?
  24. What was that Chim? I can't quite see your post...
  25. That's long term memory, totally different than short term memory.
