    Water bridge

No reason you couldn't make the water flow, run a pump pumping water from one tank to the other it'll flow back through the tunnel. You run the risk of bubbles building up in the tube which over a long time could suck. But that could be solved by putting a small hole at the highest point with an airhose running to a powerhead's venturi. It'll suck any air out.
  2. Yeah, you can buy dead base rock. If you're up in Auckland there are also people that can sell you live rock. Base rock from a fish store is going to be around $10/kg. No, I don't think there will be any rocks with enough surface area at the beach.

    bracing

Something like Pies' metal rod bracing should work. And the little rim normally around the edges doesn't really get in the way.
  4. You can not get live rock from the beach. You can get rocks with some stuff on it, but it's not liverock. Live rock is coral rock, calcium based and is pretty porous. The rock you'd be getting from NZ because is not coral rock, is not calcium based and is not porous. It may have a bit of coraline and some life on it which could be used to seed dead baserock, but it is not a substitute for live rock.
  5. And as long as it's cool, not cold. 20° or so should be fine for bristlenoses and axolotyls.

    Black Sand

I suspect black sand that's industrial waste from a mill is very different than black sand that's just dark sand from a higher than average iron content.
  7. Yeah, but those are pest flatworms.
  8. Why would putting a black rubbish bag over an opaque container make a difference? There's no light getting in anyway.
  9. There are fish eating snails. But they're not applesnails.
  10. Or you could get a bigger piece of driftwood and wedge it between the bottom and the tank bracing at the top.
  11. Half a degree, I wouldn't worry about it.
  12. I noticed my tank, when the sun is shining on a portion of it makes the part with just the tank lights seem very dark. My lighting may not be super bright, but it's not exactly low light either.

    Tank Upgrade Photos

Crispa crispa crispa crispa...Have to remember that. I've been feeding it a clump of whitebait every day or two, and occasionally pieces of shrimp but I think my yellow tang's been stealing them. Hard to say how much it is or isn't eating. And then the stupid thing seems to like to hide from the light. Ughh... At least it's still alive.

    Tank Upgrade Photos

Is that white thing a sebae anemone? (Hmm, I've asked two "What's that white thing" questions today) Wish mine was that size, and that nice looking. Speaking of them, anyone know how to tell the difference between the two different anemones sold as sebaes?

    SPS Food

I had a few clusters of it and they've slowly disappeared. Nyah nyah, my tank's obviously better than yours cause my bubble algae has died off. (Great, now I'm going to look in the tank tomorrow and it'll be so full of bubble algae the fish won't be able to swim)
  16. On the second pic from the side, what's the white polypy thing on the bottom a little to the right? Is that a LPS or some kind of polyps? If it's fraggable I want a few next time I'm around your place.
  17. Should be a law that people with kids have to have thier yards properly fenced in so their children can't escape instead of forcing OTHER people to keep those kids OUT.
  18. If you're using incandescent lights I'd imagine you have a standard screw in light fitting. In which case you can replace the lights with something like this. Put as big of one as can fit.
  19. Speaking of those, can anyone get me a needlewheel pump? I've got a berlin classic sitting doing nothing in my closet, thought if I were to throw a needlewheel pump on it it might work pretty well.

    RO/DI Units

BTW, they don't extract ozone from the air, they create it using either an electrical arc or UV.

    Nasty Smell

Aww, no more lovely smell of well aged escargot?
  22. The skinny fluorescent tubes. Not the fat ones or the really fat ones.
  23. I'd put 2 polypterus in it, a fire eel, a tiretrack eel and a redspot pleco.
