  1. Or you can live with them. They're good algae eaters and scavengers.

    New Halide

I'd thought as far as light goes they tend to extend their polyps more as a response to low light and less when the light is high?
  3. I splash and drip all around my tank, but that's mostly because I'm messy.

    RO waste water

    2-3 is actually pretty good.
  5. Oh, yeah, that reminds me, Brian. Got a call yesterday from someone saying it'll be February.

    Got skimmate?

Uhh...why give it to someone with MH? It seems to be surviving, I used to have it maybe 6" under the lights, but it decided it liked the underside of the rock better. The way it is now it seems to like sitting near the top of its little pillar. Feeding has been a problem lately since some dumbass left the whitebait out after feeding the anemone and the cats knocked it onto the floor where the dog ate it...I'll grab more next trip to the store.

    Got skimmate?

Ok, it's been over a week and the skimmer has collected...Somewhere in the range of 50 milliliters, only about an inch in the collection cup, which the section it collects in is a triangle so it's not much. Today I guess I'll tear it apart and give it and the pump a clean.
  8. Yeah, it's called wireless LAN and ICS.

    shrimp in fuge

I missed a "Which of these foods go best together" question on a sensory IQ test once because the answer was White chocolate and caviar goes best together...
  10. That's nice! For a hard coral, anyway.

    shrimp in fuge

I wouldn't put a cleaner shrimp in the refugium. Seems a waste to put an expensive animal in there where you won't really see it. Pick up a bunch of glass shrimp from some rock pools and put them in there. They seem to survive indefinitely if they make it past the first month...So maybe acclimate them in a bucket over a few days so you don't have many dying?
  12. Garbage like that tends to at best waste your money, at worst cause as many problems as it fixes.
  13. Looks like the prices I can find are $4-7ish each in the US.
  14. YAY! Come back to us softy fans, you know you like it better with us.
  15. And this is why most people try to keep macroalgaes out of their display tanks.
  16. They're what? $20 for a dozen everywhere but NZ?
  17. I think if I was doing something like that I'd have tried to make it a shed sized sump room.

    Acrylic Sumps

It's really not important to have the baffles watertight. Just as long as they're held well enough that the current or occasionally bumping it while moving stuff around in the sump doesn't knock it loose. Soooo...Yeah, just one side will be fine.
  19. $60 yellow tangs? Just after I bought mine for $120 I saw them on sale from a website in the US for $3nz each!

    Biological Media

The same bacteria(Well, maybe different species, but same idea) lives in freshwater. But they're anaerobic. There are denitrator systems for FW that work by creating an oxygen free area for those nitrate eating bacteria which is probably what that media does. Deep sand beds also seem to work sometimes. But...Just do a water change, they're cheap, quick and easy.

    MAF Review

Corals tend to sit still so you can take their pic too....
  22. Yeah, as long as you don't go nuts with the heat gun it shouldn't ruin the visibility. I don't think it's critical to get the shape exactly right, so you could try, if you can get the front of the TV off, lay it on the inside of the TV front about where it would be when assembled lay it face down and hit it with the heat gun and let it sag from gravity. Should give you a reasonable curve.
  23. That's pretty much what I suggested 2 pages ago! Except I don't think a hair dryer will be enough, a heat gun would.
  24. If she has a valid reason for using them, no I wouldn't advise to stop using them. They work just fine at keeping the PH up. If they're being used "Because they add oxygen to the water" Yes, I would advise to stop.
