  1. Just put the hose clamp on nice and tight, maybe smear some silicone around the join as extra insurance, you'll be sweet.

    New to all this

Hey, Ryan, did you get the RO filter sorted out?
  3. Small metal halide off trademe would probably be best.
  4. If you don't want corals(Which you didn't say you wanted) You can save massive amounts on the lights. You also won't need as good a skimmer.
  5. So, not only are they almost 40% dimmer so you need to buy more they cost more to buy? I bet they don't last as long either. Might as well just go with MH.
  6. Yes, but you'll end up with less overall flow(But more than the flow from a single filter) and have to clean the first filter a lot more often. Of course, the second filter won't need cleaned as much.

    Lime rock

Limestone is perfect for african tanks. It dissolves really slowly though, so probably would only bump the PH up like .1-.2.
  8. Usually poor acclimation, I think.
  9. Looks like a hydno, not an acro. But I agree, looks like it's dying off and been covered with cyano.
  10. I reckon it would look like you've got a massive algae bloom.
  11. www.dpt.co.nz is also a good place to get them. That's where I've bought my leds before.
  12. I still want to try putting kalk in a fluidized reactor. Just pump a little trickle of water through it so it doesn't disturb the kalk much and any that isn't dissolved should settle before going out of the reactor. Then you have a constant trickle of saturated kalkwater. That's the idea anyway.
  13. More seriously though, obviously too big depends on how much you're willing to put up with. Once you get to a size where you can't reach anywhere near the back or the bottom of the tank the maintenance starts to get more difficult. Bigger tank=bigger and longer water changes, more cost for heating, lighting, etc. Once you hit a certain point in expenses and labor needed to maintain the tank and it stops being fun and becomes a chore. That's the point where it's too big. I think 4X2X2 tanks are about the perfect size. Fairly big, but not too big.
  14. I find they've far too low capacity and clog up too quickly.

    Jager Heaters

I've found that every heater I've had regardless of type quickly develops some moisture inside it.
  16. Have you priced up the bits you're wanting? They're not cheap especially in the sizes you're aiming for, if you can find them. If you're wanting cheap you might be better off going for something like a bucket with a screw on lid, punch a couple holes for hoses in it and it should work fine. But proper PVC piping and bits like you're wanting will be expensive.
  17. I prefer to dose the vodka at the rate of one shot per time Caruso removes or puts on his glasses....
  18. That's probably the ballast.

    Planted Nano

You need a powerhead in there for circulation.
  20. I'm seriously depressed with it. Starting to think I should give up and sell everything off since it's looking so crap.
  21. Pearl gouramis are about the tamest gouramis you'll find. I've never seen any of mine show any aggressiveness other than the occasional little chase to any other fish. And I've had 400 of the little basta...Err...Fishpoops.
  22. Hey, Paul, I think you need to check your salinity, seems really low!
