There are sometimes two round things in magnetic ballast fluoros. One is the starter, the other is a capacitor. In the one on one of my tanks for example it's labeled "Capacitor metallised polypropylene 15 uF" The entire unit is frequently described as the ballast and includes a transformer that drops the voltage down to the 100 something volts fluoros run on. And it will probably be humming at 50 hertz.

New ballasts are cheap, you should be able to remove it and run to an electrical supply shop and get a replacement for like $10-15.

Yeah, landscaping places are good. There's also this really big shop called "Outside." They have excellent prices and seperate aisles for nice rounded river rocks, another things like schist and generally a great selection of other types of rocks scattered around the store.

Nope, I haven't found any of my severums, green or gold, to be particularly aggressive towards each other. The occasional chase, but that's it. Actually, I haven't found them to be aggressive towards anything.

If he was my kid he'd know better and get a good thumping for that. It's a Clownfish, not a nemo.

Give the powerhead a smack or stick something down the outlet or inlet and give the impeller a flick. A lot of small powerheads are really horrible at starting up because they don't have the torque to get moving if they're not perfectly positioned.

Brand recognition is god in marketing. Then toilet paper and similar should also not be allowed until after 8pm, in fact, ban all hygiene related ads from prime time TV. People that want educated children not totally oblivious about the basics of human anatomy?

I attached his fins to jumper cables and then connected them to my car battery. At least that's what he risks if he starts attacking my goldspot or redspot plecos. At the moment he and the single giant danio are the only non bottom feeders in the tank.
