  1. Where did you bring it from? That might be the problem.
  2. "Ok thing to do" doesn't come into it. The average arsonist is usually an early to mid teenage white boy. Feeling powerless, everyone controls his life, no control of his own, and yet with bit of flammable liquid and a few matches just look what I can do?

    Unlevel Tank

Allow me to save you from the horrors of google... http://www.hollywoodfishfarm.co.nz/product_detail.php?id=28
  4. Only works if the *Cough* in front of you hurries up, which they never do.
  5. That doesn't matter a single bit unless you have a bare UV bulb in the tank. The UV is completely contained inside the steriliser which isn't even IN the tank. There would be absolutely no UV exposure from the steriliser to anything inside the tank itself including your arms. Maybe if you have really scrawny arms and get them sucked up the intake.
  6. I clean mine approximately once every 3-4 months. Not so much because they start to clog, just because I figure it's probably about time. And I get huge mats of gunk that clog the kitchen sink when I do it. Hehehe, The CF1200s are especially good at getting a suction going and making a loud slurping noise as you strain to pull the baskets out.
  7. 21 is a bit cooler than the bristlenose and guppies would like, but they should be ok. What kind of catfish do you have? There are over 2000 different catfish species kept in the aquarium trade around the world and dozens(or more) kept in NZ.
  8. Only good for waterborne algae, which is not the case here.
  9. They should be fine together.
  10. Also tell him he shouldn't have a male and female together unless he wants to keep replacing them too.
  11. 3.8 isn't a "YOU MUST HAVE THIS SAFETY FACTOR OR YOU WILL DIE!" requirement. It's a goal and I doubt more than maybe 1" of tanks bigger than maybe 2 feet reach that. It gets stupid expensive. It's something like at 3.8 there is less than a 1% chance per year of the tank breaking, statistically. I can live with odds higher than that. Most larger tanks tend to hang around a safety factor of 2. Which is good enough as long as you don't go hitting it with hard objects while you're angry, you'll be ok.
  12. Let's see...Throw a new fish in a tank that only had two fish known for being extremely territorial and fighting to the death, and you're asking if maybe they killed the new fish? Yes, it's possible, it would be pretty clear if the bettas killed it. I'm surprised the male and female fighter didn't kill each other first though.
  13. Silicone is pretty heat resistant, so heat wouldn't be very useful. But if you really wanted... You'd probably want something more along the lines of a 12v car battery, 9v batteries are absolutely pathetic for current and capacity. Use the nichrome wire from an old heater.
  14. We don't tek kindly to folk who use ferrenhyt round these parts... Anywhere from 24°-28°C will be fine. I aim for 26°C
  15. Trust me, it loses its attraction when your yard looks like this for 6 months/year... (Pic stolen from first appropriate looking hit for "anchorage yard snow" on google image search)

    Canister problem

Depressurising? What's the sound like? Gurgling? Does it blow bubbles out of the spray bar when it does it? If it is, could be sucking air in somewhere. The connections between the elbow joints on the intake would be my first guess. This is assuming you've cleared the obvious like an airstone near the intake so it's sucking in bubbles.
  17. Far left, second one up, under the clown and above the "New coming soon"
  18. This is one of the reasons everyone should have a multimeter. Dick smith sells ones that are great for things like this for about $10.
  19. Silver Mystus. Latin name Mystus Gulio, I think.
  20. Find a camera with better macro capability?
  21. One idea...Why don't you get a small mirror and try scraping the silvering off the back in a section large enough for the lense to see through? I doubt the fish would be overly upset by the black hole in the middle of the image of a horrible invading other fish.
  22. Haha, *NOW* I see why they're called yoyo loaches!
  23. Fishkeeper tequila with a neon on the bottom?
