    Mollie Tranny

Are they viable? ie can they reproduce? seems moocho crazy to me, but then again I just found an article about how mollies can use mating from other species to reproduce without actually using the sperm... transsexual xenophillia Cloning..I need a little lie down
  3. Technically they aren't Stella, Pleco has become an all encompassing common name for any sucker mouth catfish, I believe it come from the confusion when Plecostomus were first made available to keepers, Have a look at some of the catfish forums the varieties are so vast its not funny. If Im wrong here someone please correct me, I'd get into quoting the scientific names etc but my spelling is as terrible as my typing speed
  4. I may be going mad...highly likely actually  but my pair of two platinum female mollies, now appears to be a male and female I was watching them last night and saw the larger of the 2 flick its anal fin forward like a gonpodium (spelling?) either Im stupid and made a mistake in sexing the fish which I've had for close to a year..Ive been looking high and low for nice male for them since they matured. I know some reef fish change sex but this is ridiculous anyone heard of it happening before?

    Burnt plug

Agreed, poor contact = high resistance most common cause of termination failure, you should see the results on a major load of thousands of amps now that's a real hot spot
  6. Go for the plastic pipe, block off one end, just tight enough for them to get in and out with a wiggle is successful for me
  7. We will probably be discussing what we can and cant do as far as the display tank at the committee meeting on the 22nd. I would love to get a whole swag of biotypes going but we will need to walk before we run and we will have to look after the things too, I'm sure the zoo staff have plenty to do as it is. all your locals pass the word on to non forum fishy people we are going to get this club pumping!
  8. The Waikato Aquarium Society has a new home...the Hamilton Zoo! This is an exciting change for us with a new home, a new focus and a new event based calendar (which will be unveiled at our next club meet) So come along and see us at the Hamilton Zoo Education centre Sunday the 6th July at 3.00pm Members get free access to the zoo as well (details still pending) so thats another great reason to come along. We will be setting up an aquarium display so planning that will be our first activity (It looks like it may end up being a native tank so I can see some fun field collection days coming up). Bring the kids and your partners we are family friendly and will be getting some activities rolling for the younger ones. :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce:

  13. If your employers are that tight I'd be looking for a new job  You could go with the line that it helps control stress, according to the labour dept an employer must assist you in minimising stress, if you flip out its their fault
  14. Great stuff leviathan I try and improve the colouration of my school of platties by just keeping one strain (in my case Sunset). I suggest you grow them out and just keep the good ones, I'm starting up a seperate tank for my breeding platies and keeping just the females in my display tank (I like the shape of the females over the males and mine seem to have as good colour)
  15. How are you measuring your power usage? do you have a check meter?

    Where to start

I have a nice little (60l) tank I want to set up at the office. I have no experience with Killies but thought I might give them a lash. What is a good starting setup? How do I source killies in Hamilton? Stocking Suggestions? What other fish can I keep with them? Help is appreciated :bounce:
  18. If your not good enough for your family you aint good enuf for mine I think this thread has derailed a little
  19. I'm sure lifting heavy tanks caused the piles
  20. Ship it up Mystic, or if anyone is coming via Hamilton I can get it to Living Art.
  21. As for sexing them, I've gone by fin extensions and colouring.
  22. Looks like a girl to me Mystic, mine are about 22 cm long at a guess, I hope they all play nicely.
  23. I saw a piece on TV (one of those food shows with that red head chick) a few years ago about a guy growing those Agave's and making Tequila in NZ. Takes a few years to grow em, then you have to roast the root bulb over a fire pit or something before extracting the juice. Off to the succulent markets now David? I used to know a guy inTeAroha who grew Peote he was one trippy dude Literally
