We will start about 3.00pm ish and aim to eat around 5.30 so those with young families can come too. 7 Forth Crescent Glenview Let me know if you are coming please 843 2227 Cheers Owen
  5. Watch for fungal or bacterial infections. I had a BN Who had similar patches and they went mouldy. I treated it with Furan2, it recovered 100%. Good luck
  6. I believe that a red filter may work too. Fish are reported to have poor vision in the red spectrum, as this light is filtered out first by water. Nocturnal fish supposedly even more than others

    Kribs

I have some kribs in my work tank, which I suspect are doing the wild thing. My concern is with feeding the fry when they hatch, do the parents bring food to them when they are really young?, removing isnt an option because of where they have chosen to set up house. Or do I need to pippette some microworms into the cave? Owen
  13. Gee guys I really cant wait to see the post "Great Fish Keeper R.I.P." you guys are retarded. "hahahaha I got a shock, I lived I'm not scared" It takes bugger all to stop your heart beating and the burns you get from electricity are 3rd degree. For those of you who don't know what that means, basically the flesh is cooked and.dies, you will typically get an in and an out burn, which is what will be visible, it may not hurt because the nerves are dead. What really sucks is the damage which happens to the tissue between the burns when that starts to rot. You can be a dead man walking and not know it with electrical shocks. USE A SPARKY  Dicks
  14. Also be aware that polystyrene will suck the plasticiser out of TPS cables(the flat White stuff used in household wiring) all it takes is some movement, the insulation cracks, a little h2o and its all on  I agree with Phill on this one, use batts and sleep well at night. You can get non migrating TPS which is safe to use around polystyrene, but would cost more.
  15. I have had the same problem Henward, I think its from the food we feed our carnivores. I have my spraybar on the surface of the water which keeps the slick from forming.
  16. I dose my tank daily with it and have Sterbai, Peppereds and Juliei corys, never had any issues...stink bro
  17. Sunday 2nd November 3.00pm Hamilton Zoo I believe we are going to start setting up our native tank.
  18. If you want biological filtration on a large scale, I'd go with a fluidised bed filter, I keep meaning to make one but always seem find more pressing projects. A fluidised bed is basicly a tall container with some sand in it. With the intake at the bottom of the container, and outlet at the top you will need some good flow as the whole idea is to get the sand suspended in the water column, what happens is the sand will be in constant motion and old bacteria will be constantly displaced and new bacteria will grow in its place. They do use up a lot of oxygen tho so good aeration would be a must. In the application that I suspect you will be using it in I'd run it through a mechanical filter first, follow up with the Fluidised bed and finally run it through a tank filled with water cres or something similar to strip out as many nitrates as possible. Its what I have been thinking about for our major zoo display when we get around to it. Should be low maintenance. 8)
  19. World of water Animates Both pretty good (north end of town)
  20. not sure what you mean Navarre, there will always be purists who belive that hybrids are wrong, but a flowerhorn is a flowerhorn and bloody hard to pass off as anything else, ditto to parrots. I believe that what David had in mind is that New Worlds dont run the same level of risk of hybridisation and or mis identification. BTW Im with you on this David
  21. I'd have to agree, common plecs look more armour plated and different body shape.
  22. I have some spare after I brought a big roll of it, its good stuff 20mm thick open pore, same as you get in a canister filter. 80c / 100mm2 and you can have some from me..depending on how much u need.
