I currently have a 230L ish tank with malawi cichlids. I would dearly love to upgrade to a larger tank (wouldn't we all) but I have a small house and really no extra space to even go a further foot width-wise. So the only way I can go is up. Is there any point other than aesthetic value? I realise it doesn't increase the 'footprint' but surely it gives more swimming room, more volume. Also at what point would the floor neeed to be strengthened? It is just a standard polished matai floor in a 1962 house.

I am curious about this due to having a family member who is constantly whinging about the price of cat litter. These 2 cats go out whenever they like during the daytime, and at night the cat flap is locked so they can't go out, but regardless of whether they are outside or in, they always come inside to use the little tray. This seems a little mad to me, I always thought litter trays were mostly for kittens, or for cats which never go outside. Am I wrong?

I was actually commenting on how good the store looked.

I was in Animates Kaiwharawhara this morning and wow what a change since the new manager started. The tanks look better, there are a few display tanks, more interesting fish. The prices are still way high but I came out of there inspired (and the proud new owner of 8 black neon tetras) rather than depressed, which is how I used to feel!

Our best friends have a business in Te Kuiti and they know EVERYONE, I will find out a name of a good builder for you.

FYI my husband has been doing mega research and we are no longer having HRV installed and instead having Intellivent (like Mitzubishi's Lossnay) installed which is a few hundred dollars more but he assures me it will be better and has tried to explain it to me by drawing pictures which look like houses with a uterus and fallopian tubes in the attic. I report back once it is in.

how can you have 5 male fighters?I thought you could only have 1 per tank? Wow your tank sounds awesome. I do have a lone glowlight tetra I forgot about. He thinks he's a neon tetra though so not lonely :lol: I did have a lonely hatchet but I took him out to Hutt Pets this week and swapped him for neon tetras cos I couldn't afford to buy 5 more hatchets. Do your gold rams not chomp the tails of your fighters? I will post a photo of the crowntail once his tail recovers more from a disagreement he had with a blue gardneri (who died last week)

My son has a little planted Waterhome tank in his room. At the moment there are 8 neon tetras, a male crown tail betta, a lone female guppy and a golden algae eater in there. Could I add something else? If so, what? It needs to be something that won't chomp the tail of the betta.
