  1. Oh please do show us some of your stuff!
  2. I have a Fluval and it is virtually silent, you're welcome to come and check it out.
  3. I work from home at a Porse Home Educator, but that technically means I am self-employed. Every day I have 4 children under 4 years between 8am and 5pm or thereabouts. It is GREAT, I love it! I get to be at home with my little boy and still work full time. We do all sorts of fun things during the day, Te Papa, parks, the Zoo, all the LFSs, etc. Here's a montage of some photos I took of some of my little ones...
  4. Yeah jeepers that's what I was thinking!! Haha my Dad is really rich but I still get birthday presents from garage sales with a comment like 'sorry not much money for christmas this year' and I think hmm maybe cos you jut BOUGHT A NEW JAGUAR!!! Oh gosh I need therapy don't I. My husband's going to Aussie next week for work so I think all our presents are going to come from Ikea. $10 presents that look cool and you can't get in NZ. Fine by me!
  5. Wow Stella, how vivid. Those dreams when you know it's a dream or hallucination in the dream are the weirdest. I have fish nightmares and they are usually the same theme. Buy a fish from the LFS for say $20, get it home and look at the receipt and realise it was $2000. That sort of thing.
  6. Yeah I am with you on that one. There is a store in Wellington in which from the moment you step in the door they're all 'How are you today?', 'Are you having a good day', 'Are you looking for something in particular', several staff, and it never stops.
  7. They're green spotted puffers. I don't have space or time or enough knowledge anyway, I just really liked them. I have decided to buy myxsptlk's tank so I will have my hands full anyway.
  8. I just spent the last quarter hour crawling around on my hands and knees on the floor looking for a Bolivian Butterfly Ram which jumped out of the net. Thank goodness for my 4 year old who recognises all the fish and said 'but Mummy there are two malivian butterfly rams in the tank'. The one I lost must have jumped into the tank. Talk about lucky.
  9. I saw the little puffers in Hutt Pets this morning and they are such beautiful little fish. Do many people here keep these (I think they were green spotted ones) and how are they to keep?
  10. LOL my parents are JUST like that. My Mum wants to know what I bought my Dad for Christmas and how much it cost and vice versa, and then if I spend $55 on Dad and $50 on Mum it means I love Dad more. Yes and they are serious. And they divorced 30 years ago!
  11. My husband flies to Christchurch for a night every fortnight. Virtually always Air NZ. Does the dog need to be accompanied? If so he could most likely help you
  12.    yeah I thought someone would say something as soon as I pressed submit.
  13. What kind of equipment do you have on this tank? Ie protein skimmer? Chiller? It could be just the thing for my son's tank. He loves rooting around in rockpools.
  14. That's how I feel (with the exception perhaps of the electrified fence!). It is true about credit too, especially with the revolving credit mortgages which are so popular now. I think it creates a false feeling of wealth. We purposely don't have a revolving credit mortgage, and have very little disposable income and lots of our friends appear to have loads, but if we counted all the principle we have paid on our mortgage in the last 9 years as 'available funds' we would feel a lot better off but it is false. As for the student loan, I have one too, but I have a job I LOVE, and I manage to have a very low net income so I don't make the threshold for making payments. It rocks.
  15. What about the car maker Ssanyong!? akin
  16. No offence taken, no I feel really blessed, and I wouldn't want to be the type of person who needs to fill a gap in their life with a $200,000 car My Dad left when I was 4 and we never had anything for years. My Mumn is still struggling to buy the basics like groceries, so when we have spare money we often give it to her. My Dad is very wealthy (overseas trips every year, 4 prestigious cars, harbour views etc) but he must be one of the nastiest and most unhappy people I know, and doesn't have a generous bone in his body. I don't dislike people cos of what car they drive but I do find it amusing. It is hard to listen to people complaining that '***(husband) has left them the task of choosing the leather colour on the new car' or the 'oh god our new house is so big it is going to cost us a fortune to furnish it' etc.
  17. I am 34 and living in Wellington. We are married with one child and both working full time. Our house's GV is $455,000 and our mortgage is about $300,000 (it was only $250,000 when we bought the house but we have added to it, landscaping, removating, life, etc). We have had this house for 9 years. A friend of mine, slightly younger has just bought a $900,000 house, and 4 other friends have houses worth about the same plus rental properties. I always thought that was the exception rather than the rule but now I am beginning to wonder? There were two Porsche Cayennes parked outside kindy this afternoon at pick up time. Does this seem 'normal' or do I just have extraordinarily rich friends? I thought we were pretty lucky to even have our own home at our age and yet there seem to be lots of so and so hasn't even paid off their mortgage yet, so and so's adding to their rental portfolio, so and so's going bach shopping this weekend? I am sick of hearing about it. I despise the rich image some people portray and all that comes with it, fancy cars, etc etc. But that aside there is no way we could or would ever buy a brand new car or a million dollar house. Do I just need to get new friends???
