  1. When I get around to re-doing the tank he is yours
  2. My 2200x 600x700. 1000L+ inc sump I am far from happy with it and plan to strip it bare and change it to an African tank
  3. That is always a possibility I guess. My last attempt at crossing shortfin GBA with shortfin Albino resulted in 100% shortfin BN. I would imagine that most of the longfin that came in to the country are related so with a bit of luck a few more are carrying that recessive gene
  4. Many of them are obviously longfin even at a very young age. It is those fish that i plan to put across gold next time. I will not be selling any of these fish until they are a bit older and can confirm that they are full longfin.
  5. I couldn't get my hands on any goldens last time. I had a spare longfin male so I partnered him up with a gba female and now have heap of young longfin cross's. I plan to mate them to gba again to get some longfin goldens. I have more of the longfin cross's than I need and I am looking for EOI on the extras when they are ready.
  6. Not necessarily. I had a nitrite spike in an african tank a while back, I lost 5 peacocks but all the other species survived and showed no symptoms
  7. This may be a silly question but as you haven't mentioned it I thought I would ask. Have you tested your water parameters?
  8. He came in at the same time as all the others and if anything he is smaller than my other males. I don't know why he is so different to the other males but I'm not complaining Notice the bristles that are growing on his lateral fins too.
  9. I'm glad I could help you out. Good luck with the breeding, They don't seem to be any different from common BN when it comes to breeding them. Have you dried your bamboo or did you put it in green? Here is one of mine guarding a cave with about 100-150 fry in it. And this is my favourite male. He has extra long fins and bristles. I have only bred from him once so far and it was a very small batch of 20 ish
  10. Are you selling anything before you go 8) I'm looking for a pair of mars bars
  11. Thanks frog, I'm sure my tanks will be fine. The water goes through a 20 micron filter then a 1 micron filter then a 50w uv sterilizer so most of the nasty's are removed before the water gets into my tanks
  12. I know the feeling. My tanks are empty, I had 65,000L I am now using water from the local river which we normaly use for irrigation only. I have just used it to do water changes on 20 tanks and im a little worried :-?
  13. I agree, That cage is far too small for a pair of finches and is most likely the cause of the males aggression.
  14. There here They are bluer than in the pics, but you get the idea and look what arrived with them
  15. I can't help with any bamboo sorry, I have trouble finding enough for myself. I am going to try coconut shells cut in half. Matt (I think) suggested drilling holes in driftwood. Clay pots etc just dont cut the mustard
  16. Thanks James, I will add you to the ever growing list. There are pics of the parents and a bit of a log here http://www.fishkeepers.co.nz/forums/vie ... =22&t=1520
  17. This weekend I have had another spawn of longfin bn x gba, My second spawn of pure longfin Bn's , A spawn of peppered cory and a spawn of albino bn hatch. Albino bn a few hours old My first batch of pure longfin bn I have removed the cory eggs from the parents tank into their own tank. Mum is still laying eggs so there will be more than this by the time she is finished.
  18. Good Luck. Just remember that salt is cumulative. I.E. the only way that salt can be removed is by water changes and not by filtration or dissipation. If you do a 50% water change then you have only removed half the salt.
  19. If it was my 450L tank I would chuck in a couple of handfuls and then add another couple of handfuls a few hours later. Some people prefer to dissolve the salt in water first but I have never done this. I have thrown a handful of salt into a 40L tank with no ill effects
  20. I agree with P44 but there are a few things that you should know. Salt can be harmful to some catfish and scaleless fish. Some plants don't like salt It is better to use rock salt and not table salt. The iodine in table salt is fine but you don't know what other additives are in it like anti caking agent. If you are still happy to add salt, don't be scared of it. I add about a handful per 100L
  21. Copper turns things blue but i promise not to add copper to their tank
  22. Although genetics obviously pays a part I'm sure that the intensity of the blue shell will be affected buy the chemistry of the water in the tank and also the diet of the snail. It will be interesting to play around with these to see if I can intensify the colour of any offspring if I get lucky enough to breed them. I will some pics when they arrive.
  23. I just bought 7 Blue's http://www.trademe.co.nz/Home-living/Pe ... 413759.htm
  24. Do a 50% water change with cold rain water You may have to do this 2 or 3 times
