  1. As will the BGK, and Pantadon I'm thinking about a couple of Blue Rams, and perhaps some Cardinals as dither fish.
  2. Fine "particles" may infact be air bubbles. With your filter, you should NOT have sponge in all the baskets. You should also have biological filtration (instead of the sponge) well - Ceramic noodles, etc, which help your bacteria remove nitrites and. nitrates, When I installed the spraybar on my tank, I had air bubbles for nearly a week.
  3. Yup, thats correct. However 8 is possibly too high, few options. Use peat in the filter Add more driftwood.
  4. Anyone recomend dither fish that won't be viewed as snacks for a pantadon and BGK?
  5. Also, any further ideas on fish etc would be helpful as well. I have a fully cycled filter, i have bacteria laden substrate, and i have the granite & wood in a bucket of fishwater as well.
  6. http://s78.photobucket.com/albums/j106/markoshark/?action=view&current=TankLayout.jpg Scale of 1 pixel = 1 mm (wow, that picture is horrible...) Kind of to scale lol You will need to click the fullsize image link to make it viewable. I will occasionally hide food in the sand for the loaches to dig up, should be interesting to watch them Granite / marble should be ok in the tank right?
  7. If the angel seems happy, then it won't be in pain. Flatmates angel has no lateral fins due to tiger barbs, for a few days it was prety sick, but has come right since then.
  8. fluval 404 on 125L tank is even more fun. I nearly had a whirlpool in the middle of the tank
  9. Importing turtles would get nono'd.
  10. Part D: APPENDIX ONE contains a list of the ornamental fish and marine invertebrates eligible for importation into New Zealand Able to be imported, yes. It seems that the Killifish have been nuked off the list, can anone confirm this?
  11. they have been co-existing in a 125l tank currently, but they will be added to the new tank when it has been cycled etc.
  12. From what I heard, mollies, and guppies were gone, however I can still see them on the list 0.0?

  14. wtf? That dosent sound right. You should get SOME Nitrite BEFORE Nitrate. 0.0
  15. i've heard somewhere that you should use them on an angle, to prevent the warm water from traveling straight up, and hitting the thermostat.
  16. OOkay. I've been doing some more reading. New plan: 3 oscars + my silver sharks + common plec. When they start to outgrow my 3foot, they get upgraded to my 4foot tank. Any ideas on how long it will be before they start to outgrow that tank? Year? 18 months? *the 4foot is a 300 litre tank
  17. So, I'm getting a new tank. And now I'm wondering what to do with my 3foot 3foot / 15" / 15" Would this be suitable for an oscar, and 2x firemouths, and 2 Jewels? (and possibly 2 convicts) The tank won't be planted, but i'll make hidey holes using pots (cheap enough...), and a lot of interesting driftwood. And some fake plants that the fish can destroy, if they feel like it. OR, would I be able to put, say 3 oscars in there, and the same deal with the planting etc. Oh yeah, and an albino plec And are Oscars REALLY the JDs they are made out to be? (I'm pretty sure that i know what the answer to this will be..) Doing large (and frequent) water changes won't be a problem. I have a handy hose.
  18. HFF in Albany have a rather impressive corner Malawi tank setup front left corner as you walk in the door, RIGHT at the front of the shop
  19. water can still flow around them
  20. Most petshops sell "Aquarim deviders" (blah, spelling ) THey are a piece of plastic that holds onto a sheet of glass, and attaches to the tank with two suction caps. Unsure of price, but they are cheap. Speak to a glazier about pieces of glass, should be cheap.
  21. new fish can take a few days to get used to the feeding, and you will find that some fish will only eat fish that gets lower in the tank, the cardinals should be fine in a few days.
