  1. Here a lump of Coal. Merry Christmas...now bugger off. Nah Not really. Just wanting to wish you all a very Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays I have enjoyed my interactions with you all and hope you have a great 2009. Navarre
  2. LOL but not by much. They ARE loud. They can be handled but need consistant handling (much like shelias) They can have a variety of diets from liquid fruits and nectar (what they are supposed to eat) thru to dry (if weaned on to it) food. They shit alot and messily. They are however small colourfull interactive birds. They can, like some birds, oppersite sex bond. They are in my opinion a lot of work but then you get out what you put in. Still I can pat and hand feed my bigger fish so maybe you just not got right fish. (pity I cant do the same with shelias tho, eh?)
  3. Hi Steph, I am happy to stand corrected on this, as I dont know the whole story but basically you used to be able to bring in anything you wanted. Then you had to decalre what you had then you couldnt bring in anything. So there used to be (and may still be) all sorts of stuff here. then they closed teh door and had an amnesty about what you had. if you declared it all well and good. if you didnt and they found out it was destoryed or went to a zoo. So thats it in a nut shell I think Navarre
  4. Given that we are attempting to create a otherwise unknown revenue source maybe they can pay us as well....  ROFLAMO!!!!  Navarre
  5. Well dont anyone hold their breath. :-? I am happy to contribute to to costs but I think that Auckland Zoo would probably like their own vets to do the testing as they are Aucklands animals. I am also happy to work on submission and as a MAF vet owns one of my dogs I am also happy to ask if he will look at draft prior to submit rather than muck around and not get a complete submission done in time. However I am happy to be guided by interested parties. I still think looking at an existing unreleased orgainism is better than a new orgainism. And if the MAf fish standards and gulp dare I say it the iggie thing are anything to go by, it will be bloods and swabs and feacal counts to see if there are unwanted bugs rather than tortises per say. If that is the case then Auckland Zoo should have all those work ups already CMAS/ARANZ or what ever it is called would require it for inter Zoo transfer. Just as they do for reptiles that are currently held and you can hold on permit. Navarre HTH
  6. STEP ONE...Stop them from eating each other STEP TWO ...Stop them from starving to death (see step one) STEP THREE...Hope they do not and yet Croak ...well some of them (think about that one) STEP FOUR...There will be thousands MORE LOL Sorry it has been a long hard day and def. not in a good way. 7. Also, They were held and possibly declared buy the Auckland zoo when the rules changed (lol) so should maybe possibly be able to be grandparented like the Water Dragons, Bearded Dragons Leopard geckos etc. Just a thought. Navarre
  8. And with the black pipe style heating you also run the risk of it drawing warm water out of the pond and it cooling at night as it can work as a heat sink. Navarre
  9. dont do that they will want a spec first and then maybe an exam. be up front with pharmacy or vet or Dr should be no prob its just teh doses needed are high is all. HTH Navarre
  10. Is a prescription only medication You need to get your vet to prescribe. Good luck comes in 400mg tabs or 500mg in 100ml NaCl. This would dose a 40l tank once. Once again Good luck. Navarre
  11. Hi Stella, Plese be warned that even tho some of those tubs and stuff can have a volume of water in them...they dont hold that volume when you try to carry it. Does that make sense...ie a 100l tub wont lift 100l of water as the bottom sides might give way. I use a big drum, pump water in and out and use its fitted lid to contain the slosh HTH Navarre
  12. I thought size was more important than age...tho age plays a part? Might be wrong on that .....I usually am....lol Sometimes I wonder why I both breathe in and out cause I am obviously doing one of those things wrong...however.... I thought it was size.... and age Navarre
  13. it is inbreeding if it doesnt work it is line breeding if it does. Thats how we get sub speices and local varients oh and blondes apparently Navarre
  14. Another idea ...maybe not cheaper is to use macro sleepers. I have seen this done on a mates 6x2x2. He cribloged short sleepers to provide a "leg" at each end, then ran sleepers along the "top" to form the base. Placed 5 mm or there abouts ply on that with poly on top top act as cushion. Looks good (if you like that sort of thing), and works well. Sump fits underneath and no issues with structural support ( i think). HTH Navarre

  19. I was under the impression that he got that fish in for somebody who had it for an age then returned it in very poor condition. Then the whole Bob going away thing happened and the arro never really recovered. Hence why even tho its been at Redwood for a while now it has a problem or 2. Just what I heard. hard to fix others muck ups sometimes. Shame as was/is a nice fish. Nav
